'12 VA DT Korren Kirven (Bama signee)

Brent said his parents are coming in on Wednesday to check out the academics better but he has to stay and go to school

His parents are coming in to check out the academic side of things this week. I think we're in as good of position as anyone with Kirven. Not to far from home, his parents can see him play easily here.

I just got off the phone with him. His parents are definitely coming down on Wednesday. He is not coming he is staying home because of school. His parents are coming to see academics more in-depth.

Dooley, Sunseri, and coach Palermo were in the house today for an in home visit.

Saban is coming in Wednesday morning and Kirven's parents are heading out after that visit.

Beamer has already done the in home. Kirven visits Va Tech this weekend.

So just his parents are coming and not Korren? Hm. Interesting. I am beginning to like our chances a bit more here.

Edit: Just saw what was posted from VQ.

His parents aren't driving 10 hours round trip to Knoxville, without their son, for their health. I think it's a bigger positive that they're coming without him, IMO.

VT is a solid school, pretty sure their architectural program is top notch. Higher ranked national university than UT, but not by much.

Excellent point. Korren not coming is very good.

I agree more impressive they are coming without him. I have to think if they like what they see we become the favorite here.

I would agree. I think he is close to sold himself if not completely sold.

Man he is going to be one tired athlete being in architecture. Those guys stay up until 4 AM on a frequent basis working on projects.

Ha that's an understatement! Architecture was my major and I don't see any way possible that a football player can put in hours necessary for arch & football at the same time. Hell I could hardly do just the arch & football games (partying), no way I could've done practice, S&C, meetings, CURFEW, etc. I spent more nights in the damn studio than I care to remember.

Darwin Walker got a degree in Civil Engineering while excelling on the football field at UT. Civil Eng. may not be as strenuous as architecture - I don't know for sure, but I have a degree in Electrical Engineering and I know I saw those Civil Engineering dudes working pretty hard up on the Hill too. Either way, Darwin Walker earned a ton of my respect.

Skeet, you hearing anything from coaches about Kirven? It sounds like DD, Sal, and Palermo may have come close to locking him up on their in-home visit. Don't know that I have ever heard of the parents coming for a visit w/o their child that is being recruited. Maybe Kirven announces his commitment this week after his parents' visit, and cancels his OV to Va Tech. I would love to see it. I am sure that a commitment of that magnitude would make waves all the way down to Van, Texas and Mr. Santos.

Boom!!........too early? Just practicing cause this could be huge. Parents going without him to check the academics out. That's pretty serious considering kirven isn't coming himself

Yeah. They are going to UT, Bama, VT, and Maryland. Maryland is the dark horse and IMO not a big threat. VT is probably leading at this point.

Ouch -- I had not heard that. If true, then the visit is no where near as meaningful as I thought. The info on TOS last night only mentioned UT as getting the mid week visit.

On the Academic side (if not already answered) IIRC I read that he wants to major in Architecture and Graphic design.

He came back and stated he misread that info and was wrong.

I apologize. I read the quote wrong this morning. They are coming here with him mid week. He visited Bama last weekend and will take his official to VT this weekend. He will be hosting all his finalists at his school and home this week per Rivals. My mistake. :hi:

Hey -- no problem. Had me worried there for a bit though. As I said last night, I think we are Kirven's favorite and that is why he is bringing (dragging??) his parents here. It will be up to DD and staff to convince mom and dad, and they are pretty good at doing that.

Actually, his parents are coming up here by themselves without him.

"It was a good visit," Kirven said. "Coach Dooley is easy to talk to. He's always keeping it real. It's just straight and to the point with him. I have known coach Sal for over a year. He was recruiting me when he was at Alabama. We have a really good relationship. And coach Palermo seems like a really good coach. It was good to get to talk to him today."

"They didn't come with me on my official visit," Kirven said. "They want to get own there and see Tennessee is a little more detail. They want to see more of the academics of Tennessee."

For Kirven the Vols are still certainly on his mind after visiting Knoxville nearly two weeks ago.

"All the coaches down there are really cool," Kirven said. "They had some coaches leave and that worried me, but like I said coach Sal has been recruiting me for over a year. He's a really good coach and recruiter. I like the atmosphere down there from the fans, the players and the coaches. There is just a good vibe with those guys."

Kirven said he's plan is to announce on Signing Day and that his plan is no tell anyone of his decision before his announcement.

"It's going to be a surprise to everyone," Kirven offered.

You're trying pretty hard to keep everyone in here down on this one...what's up?

I was being serious. His parents taking the time to visit UT without Korren is a great development. VT has always been a huge factor in Kirven's recruitment. Lynchburg is VT territory. We have made a strong push with the hiring of Sunseri, and I hope it's enough. I'm just not as optimistic as everyone else.
