This one is long, but you need to watch it. UT's Pride of the Southland Band performing the legendary Salute to the Hill.

Not keen on the singers voice on the first ones I am afraid.

However the Pride of Southland Band never ceases to amaze me. I have never seen a marching band before....

The talent level is just so incredible. Being a drummer myself for the last 6 years I really appriciate the rudiments that the drummers are using during the marches.

Can I ask, how do you play in the pride of southland? Is it volunteers or is it like people doing a music degree at the UNI???

Thanks for that link Sly, makes me want to come to TN even more. Do they do that outside before every match??

You know the costumes they wear in the band, where does that tradtional attire come from, not as in where do they buy it, like what were the costumes origionally designed for? Army? I really like that look....

At the risk of sounding very dumb, I will ask anyways. Why is Tennessee called rocky top? Is it because the area in Knoxville is particularly mountainous?

Forgive me guys, I'm still pretty new to this team, so I am still learning.

I think it's by audition. Used to be. They offer scholarships to some. You don't or didn't have to be a music major. It wasn't a requirement. Actually, when I was in high school, which was a hundred years ago, you might get recruited to audition for the band if you were good enough.
