'12 AL DT Justin Shanks

They aren't identical situations, but they are very similar.

similar in that they are both committed to the same school and are DT's, but Shanks is not from FL, has interest in us and has been recruited by us for a while. Jernigan was a last minute effort. We have been on Shanks for over a year.

This is clearly a business decision. Justin will think this through. Immediate PT on the biggest stage in the best conference = NFL

Depends on who we get to replace him IMO. We haven't done too shabby in the offseason as far as coaches go. I wouldn't be surprised to if we landed someone better than Lance to coach the DL.

Thompson's going to Bama

what if we replace thompson with his lead recruiter at FSU? it would be unconventional, and the UTAD would go crazy with all these hires and fires, but a sure way to get recruits we want at schools we know are more than likely going to get them! :eek:lol:

Justin has never sat on the bench...and he won't start now behind 11 DTs at FSU. I truly believe he likes FSU but I also know he wants to play NOW and really likes UT. UT offers immediate playing time in the best conference for a very good DT. Be an instant "God" on campus at UT or an "average" football player at FSU. Not too hard to figure out.

Pratt I hope you are right

Tell em what's up. I think there is a definite possibility that he could see PT as a true freshman. Not as a starter obviously but he definitely could get on the field...and that's more than he's guaranteed in Tallahassee.

Also...he would be one of the bigger guys we have when he shows up on campus.

If he puts business (NFL) and education ahead of everything else we get him next week.

Love it, Pratt! Man, I hope you are right. We really need one more stud DT this class, and then we will be good...don't get me wrong, I will take Shanks AND Kirven.

This thread is about Shanks. Secondly, we are in a lot better position than people think. Let this one play out but I will not be surprised when/if shanks signs with Tennessee on NSD.

True. But Coach Thompson had a much bigger part in getting him to visit than most people think. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out for sure. Personally, I don't like the uncertainty in our DL Coach and the fact that he's visiting FSU all in the same week.

Damn....its all fun and games until someone's feelings get hurt...aaaaaaaanyway....whats the latest on Shanks? Is he leaning one way or the other?:dunno:

He's still committed to FSU. If Goldman goes there, it might change things. Otherwise, I don't know that our chances are all that great.

I agree, with the coach Thompson part. With what I have heard prior to this past weekend though, I feel like our position is pretty strong. Especially having our new DC in place before the weekend definitely helps.
I'm not going to make a prediction either way, however, I feel we are in a very good position to land him.

Agreed. I think we are in a much better place than we were a few days ago. Just don't know if it was enough. 30-35% or so is where I would put it. But that's just one man's opinion.

This. I'd say with Thompson leaving any chance they had with Shanks is probably out the window, at the very least he's a much longer shot now than he was before Lance left. Hopefully Dooley gets all these positions filled ASAP. They also need to be filled with very best possible recruiters.
