But on the field, even with a short roster, you should still be able to see improvement in players if you have good coaches. Even if they are subtle improvements. The only area I feel you have seen that under Dooley is at DL this past season, and that can be attributed to CLT.
UT went from one of the worst pass protection teams in the SEC to the best. UT was third in passing in spite of losing Hunter and Bray for big chunks of the season. In spite of actually getting younger on D, losing Jackson, losing Brewer, losing Lathers, not getting Martin back anywhere close to full strength, having to start two true Fr at LB... UT improved from 10th to 7th in the SEC in total D reducing their yards allowed by about 40 per game. Likewise they reduced ppg from 25 to 22.
You should also factor in that UT's SEC schedule was more difficult in '11 than '10.
For the most part the improvements were subtle and incremental. Many were personal and not "unit" improvements.
Kick returns, kick coverage, punt returns improved but cover did not.
The run game did not improve.
You must have missed the interviews from your Senior players after the UK game. Just saying.
With Todd Gurley committing to Georgia, it is down to South Carolina and Tennessee for Mike Davis. He seemingly is favoring USC but some sources with knowledge of his recruitment and connections to family think there may be some games going on with all that. Tennessee is also in it for Davante Borque, but he has recently been talking more to Miami. There is belief that part of that may be due to the possibility of Mike Davis heading to UT. If Davis does not choose the Vols, I expect Borque to be in Knoxville next year. Either way they are not done at RB with what they currently have committed.
I'd be surprised if he still visits UGA on 1/20. I also would be surprised to know that Clemson has no chance at all when they get his last visit before NSD on 1/27.
I think this is going to be one of those "tricky" ones where everyone thinks he's going here or there and he ends up shocking us all. Hopefully for us, it's in a good way.
