.... some of the reaction to Sunseri.

I have not read all of the most recent meltdown over this guy... and frankly do not plan on torturing myself that way.

HOWEVER....

This guy holds the title of Asst HC for Defense at Bama. Recent BCS champion Bama... who held LSU to under 100 yards in the title game. I'm not exactly sure what that means... except that Saban wanted him on staff badly enough to give him a bigger title and presumably more money. It also sounds like someone with a little more authority.

According to several, Bama fans are upset over the prospects of losing him.

He has been a DC before at a small school but a DC none the less.

He has success in the NFL.

Hart knows him probably better than any of the other candidates and perhaps more importantly knows what Saban and others at Bama really think of him.

For a good many of you... I am just confused why you are complaining if UT takes someone that Bama fears losing.

This is a good hire. Shannon would have been a great hire, Buddy Green would have been a bad hire and sent this board into melt down mode.

its simple,,he is not a proven DC,and we need more proven coaches and not more"we hope it works out"hires

dont see why that's so hard to see.

Sal will take the job because he knows if Dooley is fired he is the new Vold HC.

I'm with you. I was excited when I heard this. If we're gonna get a coach from any team in CFB at least it's the team that won the title less than 48 hrs ago

What is an Asst HC over Defense? He has DC experience. Moreover, he has position coach experience in the NFL where gameplanning is more a part of their job than in CFB.

This guy IS a proven coach. I don't know if he'd be a good hire or not. But you can stop pretending that he doesn't have a qualifying resume. He does.

I really liked the look of Bennett.

Didn't one of the reporters indicate that he had decided to stay put?

I know for someone not part of a hiring process to look at resume highlights and say "that guy is it... that guy isn't". But there is far more to hiring someone than looking at their resume. The guy has to "fit" the staff AND the situation.

FWIW, RE: Bennett. Do you really want to hire someone who may want to "go home" if a big job opens up in Texas. He was an A&M grad ftr.

Outside of zjc I think most just wonder about CLT staying or why he wasn't offered. That's a question that only DD and Hart would know which means it's going to be debated as a sign of idiocy. I think this is a great hire if we keep LT, ok hire if we lose him because of continuity. I don't expect us to lose him because he's already so well paid here.

Who woulda been ur choice?

Of all the main candidates who came up, I would pick this one over all the others. Guys like the poster you are responding to don't know what they are talking about. There are no proven DCs available who are any good. This guy is better than all the other names who came up. Book it.

If this infact is true, for myself I'm just a little concerned over the fact that a program like ours is taking a chance on promoting a position coach to Defensive Coordinator instead of hiring someone who's proven at the position. We're not Memphis, we are Tennessee and should expect more.

Also, I'm a bit confused over why we are hiring a position guy on the outside for this job rather than promoting Lance Thompson. Wasn't LT pretty much THIS guy 3 years ago? Wasn't he a highly touted LB coach and recruiting coordinator of the year at 'Bama before he was hired?
