Most overrated Vol

Am I the first to mention Johnny Crompton?

Shocking. I was thinking him the whole time. Wasn't he voted one of the top recruiting busts ever? Wasn't he a 5 star and the top qb by some services? He had a decent senior year but I feel like the boy wonder kiffin was actually the one to thank for that. Plus he had lots of NFL talent on offense to help him look good.

how are we defining it?

A guy based off his recruiting rankings (that'd be Chris Donald)

or

A guy that played for Tennessee consistently (that'd be Kelly Washington).

Definitely a contender
I mentioned in another thread that I met Crompton on the San Antonio riverwalk the night before he played the US Army HS All American game. I approached his group because one of them was wearing a Vols cap. He had that same stupid "I just smoked 5 lbs of pot" facial expression that he sported on the Vols' sideline. The kid was already a legend in his own mind. He was so forgettable that if he had been, say, Sam Bradford instead of someone that was signing with my Vols I would have forgotten ever meeting him.

However you want to define it as long as you can defend it.

He was terrible. Of course it probably was because everytime they put him on the field he took a shotgun snap and ran the ball. It didn't take long for the competition to figure that out. I remember watching games with my dad and hating to see Locke coming out on the field, because we knew it was gonna be Eric Locke run for a 3 yard loss. I remember thinking he would be great. I was a freshman at Greenbrier when he was a senior at Riverdale. I always checked the scores in the Tennessean on Sat. morn, and saw his name featured every single week. Def. overrated.

Do not base on how they used them. He also burned Tennessee on some long runs when he played for Bama one year. Did you see any of his games at Riverdale, I saw every game and he was a amazing two time state champ? So maybe it did not pan out in college, but he was not overated in High School. He produced, so I usually am not one of these guys, but I am in this case. I knew they guy and he was the best high school player I ever saw and I played with some good ones. He was not really that hyped when he transferred to TN from Bama. So you have to be like a 5 star like Bryce Brown to be in this discussion. I do not think Locke fits.

It's you new people who have ruined it. This was once a decent place for Vol info. Now it's a place for idiots to start random topics about any and everything.

OK...........and you continue to post along with us "new" people making you one in the same?

Chris Donald was the next Al Wilson and played three games of ST.

Kelley Washington was never that good. He had a great QB, a great RB, and a TE that could help take the middle. He had very good physical talent, just wasn't that great to begin with.

How could I have seen him play if I was playing in my own HS games on Friday nights? We're defining it however we want to as long as you can defend it. If he was all he was supposed to be then he would have shown it on the field at UT. I gave him the benefit of the doubt by mentioning how restricted they were with how they used him, but since you wanna get indignant about it, yeah, your boy sucked.

Don't forget about a pretty good WR across from him in Stallworth.

He's obviously one of "those" people. The type that are like "I liked XXXX before they were mainstream. I liked the British version of The Office" and so on and so forth.

Brent Vinson is another 5 star that basically did nothing for us. Not as popular as Chris Donald as biggest bust but still didn't do much as a Vol.

Your argument does not hold water on this two points.

1. The numbers he got in High School were not hyped they were facts.

2. He was not hyped enough to fit in the Bryce Brown Chris Donald category.

So fine he sucked in your mind, but not overated and his numbers they were mentioned in High School were not made up. Not sure why you even brought his name up in this thread. He is not my boy, I have no idea what he is doing. I just think you chose poorly when you say the most overated player in UT history. Eric Locke, no way.

Ontario Smith and the Whizzinator!

Story for those who need the refresher...

MINNEAPOLIS -- The NFL was considering whether to penalize Minnesota Vikings running back Onterrio Smith after it was revealed he was caught at the Twin Cities airport with an elaborate contraption designed to beat drug tests.

A search of a bag Smith was carrying April 21 turned up several vials of dried urine and a device called "The Original Whizzinator," which includes a fake penis, bladder and athletic supporter. An NFL spokesman said using the device during a drug test would be a violation of league drug policies, but it wasn't clear whether there were penalties for possessing one outside of a testing situation.

Airport police took an interest in Smith's possessions because the urine powder looked like cocaine, according to a police report of the April 21 incident, first reported in Wednesday's Star Tribune. Smith told police the dried urine was for his cousin. Smith was briefly questioned and then released.

The stakes are high for Smith, who has two strikes against him under the league's substance abuse policy. He got the second last season and was suspended for four games but was still the team's top rusher. Another violation could earn him a yearlong suspension.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said a league investigation would determine whether there should be a penalty for simply possessing a device designed to beat a drug test. He said the device Smith was carrying wouldn't have fooled the NFL.

"Our program requires that players be visually observed from the front giving the sample with their shirts off and pants down to their knees, making the effectiveness of such an effort remote," he said in a prepared statement.
