as little as the polls matter, it still blows my mind that anyone could possibly rank duke above us.

while Winthrop is 24-4 and 17-0 in their conf. their RPI is 69 and SOS is 266 and Davidson isn't too much better with a RPI of 51 and SOS of 194

On the upside, hopefully Pearl can parlay the "we get no respect game" into a strong showing in the SEC tourney.

I am also surprised by this. I do not believe in the conspiracy theory of everyone is against Pearl. I just think that UT is flying underneath the radar, still.

But, if you get to SEC tourney semifinals and the commentators start mentioning you as a team people don't want to play, the fact that you are, what, 7 for your last 8? -- is going to get you some recognition.

Record vs. 1-50 - 7-6
SOS - 4
Last 10 games - 8-2

or

RPI - 19
Record vs 1-50 - 0-1
SOS - 117
Last 10 Games - 9-1


Which of the two would you think has a higher ranking?



Ok. Tennessee is the first, Nevada is the second. Nevada is ranked 10 in this weeks coaches poll, while UT is unranked.

The Coaches know nothing outside of their team's schedule, so we should all just ignore this once and for all.

Given Pearl's near-constant presence on sports shows, the national broadcast of the UT-Florida game, his nationally recognized recruiting in the prior year, I don't think we're "flying under anyone's radar."

I do think a decent percentage of coaches resent him for the success he's having with a previously moribund program. And, some feelings may still linger about the Thomas incident.

Again, how much of a role does this play? I don't know. But I'm pretty sure it plays a role.

I agree, but even that we would be under the radar is baffling to me...

I heard this very thing on more than one network this weekend. Looking forward to talking with our game next weekend...

Who cares with the tourney do close. It's settled on the court. Be one of the last few teams standing and people will notice.

Doesn't matter as much in bball. Just enough to get the big dance and after that it let's play ball.

rankings shamkings.....who cares about the rankings...everyone knows tennessee is a very dangerous team, especailly come tournement time when their depth....we don't need the coaches who vote in the rankings to tell people how good tennessee is or isn't because they already know who we are....

ESPN projected seed (as of right now) - 5

those numbers speak for themselves.

Yep. Forgot to mention that, but a killer stat nonetheless.

Of course, all of this is meaningless unless our guys show up to play. I trust that Bruce and his assistants will have them at that level.

RPI is not the true measure of a team, UK's RPI is 12, Zona's is 13. Should they be ranked? Should they be even a 6 seed? No and no.
