The Sports Animal brought up a topic this morning that I had been thinking about myself. IMO Ryan is our next Bradshaw for the next few seasons. But Ryan has step it up big time this year. He changed his body, getting clean up points, hitting the 3s off and on, and playing with heart.

Guys like Bradshaw and Ryan are huge parts of successful teams. This whole season I've been wondering who will be our emotional leader next year, and I believe Ryan is stepping into that role. :clapping:

Any thoughts?

Good point. I can definitely see him stepping into that role. But we will need to see Ramar be the leader on the court as well.

I think he's doing a great job considering how he played last year, however I don't see him being an emotional leader for the team. I have seen players have to calm him down over the past two years and have seen him push several teammates when they were trying to calm him down. IMO he's too emotional to be a leader at this point but he can always mature into that role.

I say that Ryan Childress plays extremely hard. I say he will be the next Bradshaw. His hustle and passion for the game make Ryan Childress a crowd pleaser.

I don't know that he'll ever be quick enough to play the type of defense Bradshaw does, but there's no doubt that he has elevated his game.

He'll have to do it off the bench, unless of course he makes another huge step this offseason like he did in the last one.

I think Pearl is going to bring in another huge recruiting class and Childress is going to see less playing time next year then this year.

The new class of freshmen will get significant playing time just like this years class has.

We won't have another Bradshaw. We won't need one because we will not be undermanned anymore. That being said, Childress will never be more than a role player, and he is certainly no leader. He plays hard but come on, there are certainly more suitable leaders than he.

Or because he is one of 3 guys over 6'4

Bingo. Look, kudos to Ryan for elevating his game this year and playing hard. But, if we're counting on him to be the team's heart and soul, you can forget about any trips to the Final Four.

All successful teams (even in the NBA)have these types of players. Everyone is not supposed to be a 20ppg scorer or athletic rebounder/defender that stops everyone and cleans glass all day. You have to have the overachiever that brings passion and intensity even if his skill doesn't match the effort.

Childress will be more mature next year and know when to reel it in. He IS Bradshaw's replacement. Final Four teams have at least one of these every year.

Next year's class will have zero bearing on his minutes as the only post player (right now) coming in will more than likely RS because he's 300 pounds.

Yeah, they're called ROLE players. Childress is one. He is not one of the leaders of the team though.

Bradshaw was nothing more than a ROLE player before Pearl sat him down and gave him a larger ROLE to fill.

Think Dane and Bruce won't sit down with this kid at the end of the season and basically "pass the torch." Pearl just endowed a scholarship in honor of the passion and intensity that Bradshaw displays in his commitment to the program and the game. I have seen nothing but a similar mindset from Childress since he hit the gym over the summer and the progression he's made over the course of the season.

Remember a lot of times that role players are the guys that become team captains and later on coaches and managers. That is the type of player that leads 18-22 year olds when they are the same age.

No, they won't. Bradshaw is 100x smarter than Childress is on the court. You are acting like just because Childress is white, not that good, and tries, he will just be the next Bradshaw. The fact is he doesn't have the floor presence Dane does, and it's not like Pearl will just endow a Ryan Childress Scholarship because he's white, not that good, and tries hard.

So are you saying that some of us should endow the Great White Hype scholarship fund for UT mens basketball players? :)

Do you not remember Bradshaw's first two years? Not exactly "smart" or "aware of his floor presence." However, he evolved into the player he is now. All I'm saying is I see Ryan's evolution going in that direction.

I'm not saying there will be a Childress scholly. Those endowments are made to the original person that brought about a standard of (fill in the blank). The fact that you base your arguement on the opinion I correlate the two based on skin color is asinine. Next time you want to label someone a racist, have the courtesy to do it face to face, and after having spent some time with that person to make sure you're not spitting in the face of a decent person. :hi:
