Update on Randy Shannon, DC

FWIW I've heard nothing new but I'm still saying RS.

I've been reading this thread since it started and like most of you was wondering why a DC hire was not announced at the press conference. It seemed that this would be absolutely crucial to shore up a recruiting class and the average fellow would think that if we don't get someone soon it's curtains...then I had an epiphany!!!

The NCAA limits when you can contact recruits. Not us but everyone and we just so happen to be in a dead period, see link below.

http://fs.ncaa.org/Docs/AMA/recruiting_calendars/2011/I/Football.pdf

No one can contact recruits at this time. Announcing at the press conference would have been totally premature and the speculation on when an announcement will come may play into a specific time frame to get THE MOST BANG FOR THE BUCK....

Think about it, all the news about who won this and who won that will be all over with if the announcement is made after the national championship game before the 12th when recruits can officially be contacted then TN would be alone in the spotlight. If you were the AD making a "big splash" hire and waited till all the bowl news was over with it would make sense to do it around that time for 3 reasons:
1) It wouldn't have any other news to compete with
2) Every recruit in the country that watched ESPN would see it
3) You give the DC the opportunity to capitalize on all that free press

That is what I'd do anyway!

Once Dooley has failed with a fully stocked program plunked down in the middle of the richest recruiting grounds in the nation, let me know.

Until then,

Dooley > Shannon

-Steele was definitely Dooley's first choice, but Hart didn't feel it was a good fit nor the big time hire that was needed. As he explained it to me, Hart did not want a band-aid just to get through next season, which is how it was described that Steele would be.

wow

Wasn't there a poster called stopit28 who was posting Youtube videos where he dressed as John Travolta from grease that said this was already a done deal??? well that was Monday so what happened?

The next morning, his wanker was hanging out also.

There is way more credible posters here besides that dipshat.

Problem is everything conflicts as usual. Starting look like a huge smoke screen from the AD.

I posted last night that I am close to someone at GMC & who knows McCullers personally. I got a call from him yesterday telling me McCullers is a Vol.

He just called me back & said Shannon is the DC & Dooley said that to McCullers. McCullers may go public tomorrow along w/ the hiring of Shannon.

I said that last week about McCullers being a Vol. Came from his coach. We'll see about Shannon though.

shannon was a bust as HC in miami. How would he be the "coach in waiting" at UT??? :eek:hmy:

Exactly..Shannon will never be HC at UT. That will probably be Harts first big hire and knows he will need to show what kind of AD he is and officially erase all the miserable years of Hamilton as AD. I'm betting Hart will make a huge hire when that time comes

When did Shannon coach at Texas?

But I get your point.

I wouldn't say Dooley > Shannon, because what the hell has he proven? I would say that the comparison cannot be made, yet.

I support DD since he is our coach and think he has another year to prove he can actually coach. But RS's resume and career blows DD out the water. Its not even close. He actually has a winning record as HC and was a great DC. Shannon is way more proven and successful than DD.
