Update on Randy Shannon, DC

This info from DocVol sure does match up very well with what SpringBokVol said a couple of days ago that both sides had a verbal understanding, and lawyers and agents were involved now finalizing all of the paperwork. The numbers also match exactly what stopit28 said about the deal was as good as done with a 5 year $1 million/year contract. Add this in to the tweet from Palardy...hmmmmm. Only news from the Steele front was that OCIVol said he was hearing that Steele and Brooks coming to UT looked more likely than Shannon.

Ocivol lock=kiss of death for Steele

Which also points to Shannon.

Wow. IDK if you're as connected as you say, but if that's true I'm impressed all around. JW and PS always seemed like class acts, so it would be nice if they acted as you described. It's also encouraging that Dooley and Hart were prepared for JW's departure and prepared to open the check book.

A lot of ifs. This may all be true and I hope it is. However, there has been so much false information on this board, it is difficult to get too excited until we know the facts. Look forward to Friday, Monday or whenever this thing is settled.

I'm hoping this is true and that this will open up south FL recruiting for us in the future. RS should have a good reputation with many coaches in the area and it seems like in recent years our ability to get recruits from FL has dropped way off. Before he comes to K-town to look for a house, let's have him stay in south FL and do some recruiting. Must be a few DTs somewhere down there that are not firm in their commitments.

Well, there are good days when I wake up and then there is this. Thanks much OP. Looking forward to watching this class solidify, get a few more good ones, and then the silence from the Dooley haters for at least an hour or so.

Could be a special year ahead, finally.

Haven't been paying that much attention, but hasn't the accuracy of OCI's "information" been called into question quite a bit lately?

Yes, it has, but all of the other insiders on this board, including Skeeter, SpringBokVol, etc, have said that OCI is legit. OCI's only problem is that he called recruits locks, instead of saying that they apparently committed to the coaches...set him up for backlash when those recruits flipped all of a sudden last minute. I didn't say that OCI said Steele/Brooks was a done deal. He only said that was the names that he was hearing from his sources, and if you read the posts from DocVol and mlsoft, DD's first choice was Steele. Apparently if accurate, Hart's first choice is Shannon. The man making the hire overrules the HC's decision, if everything that is being said is true. OCI, correct me if I have said something that you didn't say.

Whats Dooleys contract buyout and when does his original contract end?

Do you guys think the Hart is willing to let Dooley coach out his contract? I mean we are about to come out of Phil's buyout and of course any consumer doesn't wanna start spending money on no production. I think if Shannon comes here Dooley is gonna be in a better staff standpoint then ever and I think that Shannon would be a confidant to Dooley.

Well, Fulmer was a pretty good coach when he was surrounded by Chavis and Cutcliffe. Maybe Hart is surrounding CDD with a huge coaching pool in hopes that it will restore our presence and relevance in the SEC. It shouldnt be as hard to bring coaches to UT if we can bring in a talented staff that makes Dooley look good.

I like hiring a big name, but we all know he is looking to be a HC again.

We will see how Fat Charlie does as a HC ... again :eek:lol: BTW the natives are getting restless in Nebraska with a DC as a HC watch for that scenario to grow. WTH UF also :eek:lol:

I came into some information from a good friend of mine who is one of the bigger UT boosters. This is what he told me earlier this evening at dinner regarding the DC situation:

-Dooley has known for a better part of a year that JW would leave for the first PAC-12 job that came available. It was always expected that Simon would follow. However, this all started to become reality two days after Christmas when Washington started showing interested and contacted the UT AD about JW.

-Since then, Dooley (and Hart) have worked to compile a list of replacement DC candidates. Sirmon's spot will be left vacant for the time being to accommodate additional staff the new DC may want to bring in, with Dooley's approval.

-Steele was definitely Dooley's first choice, but Hart didn't feel it was a good fit nor the big time hire that was needed. As he explained it to me, Hart did not want a band-aid just to get through next season, which is how it was described that Steele would be.

-Shannon was a close second and Hart's number 1 choice. Hart made it clear to Dooley that funds would be available to secure him, as it would take "a considerable salary," for the Shannon hire.

-JW informed Dooley on New Years Eve that he would be taking the UW job. Sirmon followed suit the next day. Both were accommodating and offered any assistance to help with the search/transition for the next few days. He's not sure if they were utilized or what they provided but said they were very gracious and accommodating.

-Baring any unforeseen event, Randy Shannon will be the new DC. He and the university have agreed (in principal--not official) through their lawyers to a multi year deal worth over $1million/year plus incentives. Despite Hart's comments on multi year deals, he is treating each coach on a coach by coach basis. Since Shannon is "his guy," it is assumed that there is some leeway on his original comments about multi year contracts for NEW hires.

-Expect an announcement by "late Friday or early Monday," depending on contract finalization.

-He was not sure if Shannon was on campus today, as was rumored.

-There was no team meeting as far as he could tell and so the Palardy tweet, he assumes, comes from Palardy's family being connected to a few high ranking names at the university. There was never an announcement made to the team that caused Palardy tweet what he did. He obtained the information from other means, but still accurate.

That's the latest and greatest. Should be all but a done deal.

One of the best post ever. Thanks Doctor

I would classify this as the "Big Bang Boom" or "Finding the God Particle Boom" if this rumor is true. I think it's annoying when you guys do that, but I am dying for good news with anything UT Football related.

If Shannon comes here, all the doomsday end of the Dooley era stuff will be in his contract. No way he comes without some insurance it isn't just a one year deal. The sticky part to me is.... Would he be happy as DC while there is no head coach or is Shannon Hart's backup plan the whole time? If they ink Randy all this will already be discussed.

The Big Fish Syndrome. We dream about the big one, but keep reeling in minnows. I don't expect anything different this time.

Why wait until Friday or Monday? If true then get the news out there now! This is a great time with all the all-star games going on and all the negative media that's been going on... JMO

Most likely they can't make any public announcement until all the contracts are signed and reviewed by the lawyers (both university and Shannon's). Gotta make sure all I's are dotted and T's are crossed. Paperwork paperwork paperwork!

Bingo. Anybody could coach the Vols to the top when they are surrounded by the right assistants and listen to them. Look for Dooley to be the HC for many years to come. Hart is the best hire this school has made in long time, and he will see to it that Mr. Dooley listens to the OC/DC.

Yeah i agree, if it's Shannon they need to announce it as soon as possible. More damage control and help everyone forget about the quitters that ran off to the left coast.

If it is Shannon...there is no doubt the the negotiations will be rather extensive and take a little time.
