I'm not real knowledgeable about the rankings, rpi or strength of schedule so I gotta ask. I was comparing Butler, who beat us early in the year, and the Vols today. Butler, ranked 18th in the country, has played 2 ranked opponents this year-winning one. One of these was Tennessee. They are 29-6 if memory serves. They just lost to Loyola Chicago 2 games ago and Southern Ill, who is playing good ball right now 2 games before that.
Tn, who again, lost to Butler is not ranked. Tn has played 9 ranked opponents - winning 6. (I want to say 7 out of 10 since we beat TX when they were unranked-but can't). Tn, last time I checked was ranked 32nd.
Now I'm not saying we should be ranked higher than Butler or Florida, but since strength of schedule is considered why not have UT up there in the top 25? FL, Mem, TX, OK ST.(arguably) to name a few falling victim to the Vols - and a near miss at Ohio St. I just think we deserve more props in the rankings - and possibly seeding in the dance?

I'll gladly get off the soapbox and learn from the responses.

Cheers,
Blues

Top-25 in bball is nice but it's still played out on the court. Rankings don't mean a whole lot to the selection committee.

Now that my friends is a damn good post.

Stated his problem. Stated why he didn't understand. Threw his ego aside and just wants the facts. Hell of a job.

As for the answer I'll leave it up to the basketball guys. I'm knowedgable about football up and down but basketball I still need some time to learn.

Possible reasons being that we went through a real bad stretch where we lost 6 of 8 and kind of fell off the "what have you done for me lately" radar. After UF, we'll probably be back on that radar in a big way. Just wait til Monday.

Two things on this topic. One, the polls are totally meaningless. The selection committee pays no attention to them and college hoops actually crowns its champion on the court, not computer labs and newspaper offices. Two, one of those polls is compiled from votes submitted by coaches. Bruce Pearl is about as popular with his peers as the Dixie Chicks are with the GOP.

To me that is a sign that he is doing his job.

He's unpopular because of the recruiting scandal he was involved in.
