If Vandy loses another game and we win against FL, that would put a tie between Vandy and us for the bye in the SEC tourney. How do they break the tie breaker to determine who gets the bye?

i think overall record....

but do we WANT to have a bye?? a bye basically takes away a potential easy win....which is what tenn needs right now to improve their seed....i dont think it will help them to have a bye and lose on friday....

Divisional record. If that is tied then it comes to the record against the 1st team in the division. If that is tied it goes to the 2nd team and so on.

Check that. Head to head. But that is tied anyway, so then divisional record.

Who would have the better divisional record if this scenario plays out? I'm too lazy/tired to look.

Well right now all they have to do is beat USC for a 7-3 record. If we win out we'll be 6-4. If they lose at USC, then it goes to head to head against UGA since presumably we'll have beaten UF. Vandy is 1-1 against them, if we win out we'd be 2-0.

It would probably do us a lot better in the National Tourney to play on Thurs, but I really would like to win the SEC tourney one day and I don't think Pearls team is built to win 4 games in 4 days. 3 would even be a stretch as much as they run. So I'm pulling for a bye.

I'd rather have an SEC tourney banner in the rafters than a sweet 16 berth.

Yeah, you won 2 games in a weekend. If we get there, while the possibility is there for a run, with this team the likely fact is that it won't happen. But I do hope both happen...

Same for conference tourney title too, correct? I mean, why would a conference tourney title be any better than a sweet 16?

Merely for superficial purposes. One comes with a banner, the other doesn't.

A conference tourney title would probably mean a 4 seed or better, and I don't think we could live up to that. I pray for a 7 or 6....just no 8 or 9 please!

As long as we don't lose to Bucknell in the first round, we'd be ok with a 4 seed.

because if you were honest with yourself you could probably name last year's sec tournament alot easier than the majority of last year's sweet 16. the bottom line is, people are going to remember teams that win championships, while losers in the sweet 16 are easily forgotten.

I'll agree that most of the people that frequent this board might know the SEC tourney better, but people nationwide notice a sweet sixteen. Actually, it was a pair of sweet sixteen appearances that got Pearl his job at UT. I know that there are good players in Tenn, but as Pearl is proving time and again, he wants to recruit nationally. If you want recruits outside of SEC country to notice you, you get to the second weekend in the NCAA tourney.

i agree it can help with recruiting. i would just much rather have a championship of some sort rather than appearing in a prestigious round in the ncaa tournament.

to get the full experience as a sports fan, you really have to be able to dream the impossible dream. If George Mason can make the Final 4, why can't we win it all?

what tha he@# are you guys smoking. sec tournament champs means nothing? does anyone know how hard that is to do, especially with tha parity today. let's take tha word champions. anytime that name is added on tha end of any tennessee team.....i'll take it, not to mention basketball. sweet sixteen? unless it's tha final four, it means little or nothing. that means you won your region. sweet sixteen only means your still alive with a chance to win something.:mega_shok:
