'12 GA RB Mike Davis (USCe commit)

Having a top 5 RB doesn't equate to success.

Montee Ball was the 33rd ranked RB in his class. I'll save you the sermon, but I could list a lot of busts. Ranking is relative.

Thanks, bro.

Tell me about Richardson, Crowell, Lattimore, and Dyer, Ware, Hilliard, etc. etc. etc. next.

Meh. I didn't see much from Lane. I think Neal is the best back on the team. I suppose Lane could've still been hurt, but I don't remember it ever being mentioned in the summer when he was lighting it up in 7v7. JMO

You are entitled to your opinion on Lane, but I saw a lot more promise than you. Most players make the biggest leap in there development between year 1 and 2. I think Marlin comes back more focused, prepared, and ready for the SEC comp. We often forget these guys are barely 18.

You could be right, and I hope you are. I'm not trying to say he looked awful or anything, just not what I was hoping for. I hope he makes a big leap next year.

Johnny, it would help your argument if you ever ceded ground, but you are dead set on your opinion. My point wasn't I don't want top 5 backs, but it was it is not an absolutely necessity to have a good running game.

Futhermore, there are also top 5's like Darrell Scott, Jason Gwaltney, and Bryce Brown that busted. With that being said, of course I want Davis, but to say that Dooley's success in 2012 hinges on the signing of a top 5 back is sophomoric.

I can agree with this. He needs a hard charging compliment to split the carries. And he needs to stop dancing so much himself. His cutting ability and balance will kill most guys in open field. Lane has rare cutting ability for a back his size. He can cut on a dime at full speed without losing speed. The Georgia game was almost a coming out party. He played well in the Arky loss too. He should be a lot better this offseason. He needs a little muscle added on and I think the S&C program will do him some good. Now I do want to see what Alden Hill looks like. If he's a good big back that would be fine. Like Burkhead(I think that's his name) from Nebraska.

I really don't think that CJG is going to tolerate any dance moves in the backfield this year. Based on his game and his coaching style, I think we will go back to North/South running.

The best comment CJG made was "I'm not here to be their friend". Coaches are coaches not friends. He won't play the radio with our RBs.

I loved watching Graham back in the day. He wasn't the most talented runner we had, but I would argue that he was probably the most determined. Hope he can spread around some of that toughness.

Dude. I never said he needed to sign a top 5 back. You're putting words in my mouth to make a point that doesn't exist. I said he needs to sign an elite running back. Come on.

It's not the death of the UT Football program or anything, but Dooley needs to recruit an elite running back. Pretty simple. If he can't, it will cost him his job.

That said, I think the writing is on the wall with the Cross de-commit. Something is locked up. :crossfingers:

Fair, I didn't mean to say top 5 back. I should have used elite back. I was only disagreeing with the bolded statement. That's all. I agree that we need twice the output that Poole brought us.

At this point, we need a running back. Someone who can cutback, find a hole, run without tripping... etc. I do see this in Neal, Lane, and others but signing a "talented" back will be better. Lane is a playmaker, but isn't the "pure talent". Depth always helps too.

We need more lurkers in the recruiting forum and less posters, so the people who actually know something can speak. The constant bickering over non-sense ruins the threads...

You could also add outsiders who claim we are making violations and have no chance in hell at the drop of a hat.

Not to be a grammar cop, but it would help readers if the name of a player is included at least once in every post, to reference he and his. I say this only because your opinons are valued, and I for one would like to know who you are talking about without clicking back for a reference search. So please do not take this as a petty quibble.

I called Lane's name like once the entire post my bad. It's around mid paragraph.

Did Coach Graham visit him yesterday? My kids told me that LSU, USCe, NC, and Clemson were all at the school today. Did Graham do a in-home with him because they said TN did not visit the school.

Sorry AC, I'm missing the link. Where is Croom talking to Davis. I'm might be a complete idiot here, but I'm drawing a blank.

Believe it's in the Jason Croom thread, one of the last pages.. I'd link, but I'm I'm phone, sry.. Says hes been talking to him, said he really liked his visit here

I really appreciate that AC. That's wonderful to hear.

A co-worker of mine (big Clemson fan/booster) said it seems to him that the Clemson fanbase is recruiting Davis harder than the Clemson staff.

Wonder why the staff wouldn't be full speed ahead on picking him up? Let's hope this works in our favor if true.
