My roommate is the new drummer for a Tri-Cities band called A Great Disaster. Where he's new and doesn't have all the songs down yet, he isn't able to really show off his talent. He's just back there keeping time, but he is insanely good.

Their guitarist was awesome, and had a crazy bass solo that sounded great.

The violinist/fiddler is the sweetest girl and super talented herself. It's a great addition to the band.

The lead vocal guy is an awesome writer and has a good enough voice to be successful.

The piano player is a prick, but I admit he is talented. Just doesn't look like he belongs in a band.

The back up/harmony singer is beautiful and has a good voice. Wish they'd give her more freedom.

The odds of them being successful are really low, but they do have a lot of talent. Sort of a newly formed band, so just going to get better with practice. When they play a gig in Knoxville, it'd be awesome to see some of you there. I'm sure I'll tag along.

My favorite song is Masochist.

I actually really, really like them, Newt. The sound is shambolic, in a good way...

I liked the guitarist's solo. It was understated and not masturbatory. The violin is perfectly paced. The drummer is solid and doesn't need to overpower the other players. He just needs to keep the time. I also like the woodwind aspect. I think that's a clarinet? The pianist is probably the best musician, according to the one song I heard. The trumpet player has the whole jazz bebop thing down. He should use a mute, imo, on All The Kids Left.

I was really impressed by what I saw. They all have talent, not really a weak spot that I noticed. There was no clarinet in the show I saw. They did have one guy play the trumpet intro and solo in the set last night. The pianist is really good, I just can't stand him. He was tearing it up on the keyboard last night.

It could be an oboe. I love it when woodwinds are incorporated into indie rock bands. It works so well with the piano and drums, imo. Ben Harper had a few songs where that was the case.
