I wouldnt have a problem with a freshmen or any year players returning punts aslong as theu do a good job and hang on to the ball...

They get nervous in big time situations if they don't have experience. Thus they drop the ball. Hefney musta had 3 or 4 muffed punts his freshmen year. So did Taylor.

I agree with ya there...Most guys as freshmen or just in inexperienced areas end up doing something really, really bad but what I am saying is give one of the playmakers we got in this signing class a chance, if they do well, leave him back there. If he cant cut it or makes too many mistakes, insert a new guy.

You seem to be one of the only people that remembers that. A lot of posters on here are calling Hefney the next Devin Hester and saying that Lucas Taylor couldn't return a punt if his life depended on it. They both struggled early in punt returns.

Yup you are right. But Hefney had some nice run backs last year and we gave Hefney crap a couple years ago too. Now he may be the best player on the defensive side of the ball (him or Mayo), thanks to his junior season. I think Taylor has a chance to end this crud people are talking about to him if he makes some plays on the field this year and I think he will.

Hmmm. If Hefney were the next Devin Hester it would get him drafted before round 2 ended in the 2008 draft.

Nobody is doubting him as a WR, Just as a Punt Returner, He has had some crucial muffed punts and the spot should go to someone else if he Continues to do that.

Well I think he has some doubters, but people are worried about what level of a reciever he will be at. Remember what kind of recievers we lost last year and what guys like Taylor have to do at reciever this year to make up for the losses.

Taylor muffed 2 punts

Ainge looked sharp

Almost always 3 WR with a TE in motion

Foster got more carries with the 1st team than Coker or Hardesty

Did not get to see the no huddle, I left too early

I don't know how much this means because looking at something like this and making an assumption (being so early) out of it is very petty but wonder if Coker just can't get out of the dog house.

After last season and all that happened if I were the coach Coker would be my #1 until he lost it. Wonder if it's some motivational tool Fulmer's using to get Coker to buck up in the classroom or where ever he failed before the Bowl game.

I agree with Lacrosse, I think WR Lucas Taylor is gonna suprise some people. Some people seem to forget, his coach is TROOPER TAYLOR, who through this spring is gonna really bring out Lucas Taylor's potential. But i think Hefney is gonna be our punt returner though, Hefney is gonna make some play this year.

i feel much more comfortable with hefney at punt returner, but i wouldn't mind seeing o'neal back there. i think jones will be it next year after he has some big game experience

Not trying to be petty, just wrote what I saw. Foster got about half the carries and Coker and Hardesty split the rest

I agree with you there. UT usually likes to have the same guy return punts 3 years in a row. We did that after we took Taylor off punt returns with Hefney, and Eric Parker was punt returnere pretty much his entire career at Tennessee. I think G. Jones may do some cool things with the ball in his hands. (To put if Phil's way) "he could be a special football player."

Being that they're running the no-huddle for the first time, they probably want to try it out with the more experienced players.

I would be fine with a freshman returning kickoffs or punts.. Remember Florida's James is a freshman and he was one of the best in the SEC at punt/kickoff returns.. You just have to have confidence and not be scared to take a monstrous hit every once in a while..
