some thoughts.
1. A win UT had to have. A loss tonight would have meant an NIT appearance.
2. Nice that ESPN2 cut to the end of the game. We're becoming nationally relevant enough to merit such treatment.
3. Oklahoma State is collapsing. They have the distinct look of an NIT team.
4. Texas A&M is tough and experienced. I wouldn't want them in my NCAA draw.
5. Rex Walters is going to make some big time school a very good coach in a couple of years. FAU has improved as much as any team I have seen all year.
6. Andy Kennedy can flat coach. Did anyone actually think Ole Miss would be leading the West with 3 games to play?
7. Mississippi State has also found their stride. They will be a force in the SEC tournament.
8. Huge win for Virginia Tech. They needed to beat BC to avoid going into freefall.
9. UVA is obviously a fraud. A loss to Miami is ipso facto evidence you're not very good.
10. There are just some things in life you can count on. One of them is the annual late season collapse by Florida State.

Hat, give me your opinion on some BB strategy. Tonight in OT, UT got the ball with 1 minute left and proceeded to run a lenghty set. This situation constantly irks me. Anytime I see this, I am thinking the team with the ball should take a fairly quick shot to get a 2 for 1 exchange. 2 offensive possessions against the other team's 1 possession. What gives? I feel I never see anyone do this? Where am I wrong?

Do you think that if UT doesn't win another game in the regular season or SECT they'll still make the NCAAT?

The remaining schedule isn't exactly favorable... any road win looks like a stretch and Florida is Florida...

If UT doesn't win another game, I think they may get left out.

I think the 2 for 1 theory works much better in the NBA. College teams tend to struggle when they try to play clock in that manner. In UT's case, with a freshman point guard, it's risky business to set an artificial clock on yourself. In the hypothetical, I think you're right. From a practical standpoint, very few college teams execute well enough to pull off the 2 for 1 properly. It's just as likely to result in completely wasting the first possession.

No. I think a four game losing streak makes us one of the top 4 seeds in the NIT.

Also glad to see Vandy and UGA get hammered tonight. Nashville media has run that win over UF into the ground as usual. Funny how they gloss over losses to Furman, Appy State, and a crushing at the hands of UT.

What if we lose the final 3 regular season games, but win the first round game in the SEC tourney? That gets us to 20 wins and a reasonably strong RPI - I think we get in to the NCAA tourney with that.

I would not want to face the selection committee with a losing league record and 0 road wins.

First of all, we can beat Georgia, on the road, with them not having Mercer. That is technically a road game, but Tenn will have ALOT of fans there. If you remember last year, we basically took over that arena and made it a home-away-from-home. I encourage anyone that can to make the trip down here and try to ensure we get into the Dance.

I'm thinking about driving over to Athens. Does the UT Athletic Department have tickets for sale, or do I need to contact the UGA arena?

I'm not going to concede the game Saturday. Arkansas is perfectly capable of playing an awful game. Texas Tech beat them in Little Rock and the Red Raiders aren't exactly a great road team. Also, Stan Heath is only slightly more competent than Buzz Peterson.

I've not been following Arkansas at all this year .. who of their big men that beat us last year do they have back this year, if any?

I've never heard of the UTAD selling road basketball tickets. Contacting the arena in Athens is your best bet.

Brewer and Modica are both gone. However, their big guys who killed us on the boards are all back.

I'd like to call the Georgia game a sure thing, but if you can't win at South Carolina, I don't like your chances of winning anywhere on the road.

If we come to play, let Lofton carry is, and have Chism/Crews/Childress play BIG we can and will beat them. That simple. We can't take stupid shots all game long and rely on Lofton to bring us back. We need to ride his ass as far as he can take us. It didn't get us very far tonight because he had the worst shooting game of his 3-year career, but he kept shooting.

And how bout those 2 big 3's late in the game over the 6'10", and LONG, Davidson? The guy is good. Ride him.

1....or forced us to win 2 more
2....agreed
3....they're in. Sutton is no coach
4....Good guard play with reliable, not great, big men
5....Don't care
6....He also has a couple of very good ballplayers
7....See 6.
8....Agreed, but they have a pretty good resume
9....I don't think a fraud. Here's where the new garbage about guard dominated yadda yadda falls apart. UVA has two very strong guards and nobody else, hence they're as inconsistent as absolutely possible.
10...FSU regularly sucks
