Dooley inherited a team with little to ZERO talent on it. We had and still have less kids on scholarship than most teams in our division. With injuries and youth and NO senior leaders to show the young kids how things are done at this level what did you expect?...
To answer the few of you who dont believe no big names wanted this job, my job deals in that arena, our coaching search specifically so believe what you want I know what I am talking about. The one most cited and talked about is Muschamp who at the time was a big name.
So, because Dooley didn't have an extra few weeks to a month more notice, he gets a freeby his first year? Uh, who do you think D. Rodgers, Hunter, Rajon Neal, and a handfull of others were? HE recruited them! It was Charlie Bagget who helped bring Rodgers and Hunter onboard. Kiffin was trying, but Rodgers was still a UGA commit at the time.
That's some wicked math you're using there. Step away from Dooley's calculator and no figures will get hurt. :loco:
You thinking kicking in high school and kicking in college is any different besides the level of pressure? Both were highly valued out of high school so i know they CAN kick. I think we can both agree on that. So if they could kick a football through yellow uprights in high school, yet struggle in college, you think Dooley is somehow making them worse? I think there's plenty of blame to go around, I just think it's odd that kicking is the aspect of the season you chose to point out as Dooley's fault. No question Dooley had his faults, i just don't know why you'd blame missed kicks on him and not the players themselves.
Please. Saban faced all the same criticisms and look what he did. What jim bob in greenville, tn thinks doesn't mean **** if the coach does his job correctly.
He is the ONLY one who declined the supposed offer mentioned. If I remember correctly, it was reported to be about $3mill/yr. He was not the type you want to bring in to stabilize/rebuild. No HC experience whatsover. He was the kind that you take a CHANCE on when someone like Brown, Meyer, etc. retires or leaves for health reasons. Not to restore order.Dooley inherited a team with little to ZERO talent on it. We had and still have less kids on scholarship than most teams in our division.:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap: :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:All of these reports and rumors of "Dooley has lost the locker room" or "the players hate Dooley" couldn't be further from the truth and honestly shows how awful and ignorant some of our fan base truly has become.
I am best friends with several members of this team, one a starter. I talk to him every week and he assures me that they players respect and like Dooley. Sure during a sub par year with a lot of adversity there are going to be rifts on every team, that's to be expected when everyone cares about something and you come up short. And yes, there are always going to be a few when times get tough that start pointing the finger (Rodgers) He tells me what this team lacked and desperately needed was leadership among the players, which never came.
Maybe if our so called fans quit bashing the absolute crap out of 18-22 year old kids and actually cheered for and not against our team and our coach, it would help these boys relax. Derek Dooley stepped into a job that NOBODY wanted. It's that simple... I'm not saying he's the next Nick Saban, but the man deserves our respect and support for AT LEAST another year before our fan base starts to show this level of ignorance and insanity toward him and our program.
I am not sitting here saying he has done everything right, but the guy has represented us with class and has worked his butt off to try to bring in the best talent he can recruiting wise, which will help us get better the quickest b/c we have VERY LITTLE talent on our roster. As I've mentioned before, you cannot expect to win games especially in this conference with two or three good players. Then, when two of the three go down with injuries you have to accept that that's football and play with what you have and not be shocked when Dooley cannot pull out a miracle.
Give this man a chance. Next year if we don't see signs of improvement (that's doesn't mean winning the SEC championship) then all of you so called fans can begin to question Dooley and whether or not he is the guy for the job... These are hard times on Rocky Top and this past season did not go as the fans had hoped, but quit acting like a bunch of crazed ignorant fools and either get on board and accept this past year for what it was, or leave and go torment someone else's program.
Who got beat by a poorly coached one without very much talent apparently.
You're absolutely right. No other fanbase would get upset at having a lower-tier coach with a losing record, send their team further into the doldrums, setting records on the way down. Not the kind of records anyone would be proud of.Another cheer up the board post and I'm with ya' all the way what you posted, but then again I'm not a negaVOL ever. I'm surprised though there hasn't been more bashing of what you said. There isn't a fan base in the country that is more fair weather and cry babies that Tennessee fans. Good post and makes some feel good now but tomorrow the tears will continue flowing for some.![]()
Vanderbilt was our "bowl game" and we played like it was our last game then lost to a team that Vanderbilt beat 38-8. We have more talent then Vanderbilt does. If you want to argue because you hate Franklin fine I totally get it. I don't like Franklin either but anyone that thinks Tennessee was a better coached team this year is just wrong. Franklin wasn't the point in my original post to begin with so I'm not going to sit here and argue on behalf of someone I don't like to begin with. My original post was simply pointing out the fallacy of buying into the "nobody wanted this job" line when Dooley was hired.
That's a joke, right? I was responding to the poster's thoughts, not Dools history at Tennessee. Duh. Take a breath and try to comprehend what you're responding to.If class is making smarta** belittling remarks in public about his players every chance he gets then I guess he has handled things with class.

What has he said to "belittle" players in public? Quotes please. Everything he says about players in the public is something correctable that the player can work on. If he thinks the player can't get it done, then he usually says "we're not getting the production we want out of the position."If class is making smarta** belittling remarks in public about his players every chance he gets then I guess he has handled things with class.
I see your point, I just don't know that I would have been any happier with Franklin being hired than I was or am Dooley. I don't know anybody who could have given us a win/loss record that we'd approve of with all the injuries.
Not according to the Doolaid drinkers. It's good to embarass yourself and your team on national television because he's being honest. Well, let's all sit back and be HONEST here. We have a coach that wants to blame everyone else and not take the blame like a leader of a team should do. Instead we here constant bashing and excuses about injuries.
If people on here think losing to KY was the bottom, fire DD right now and see how bad things can be. I'll wait for the person to say " It can't be any worse." Remember how the East use to be the BIG DOG in the SEC? Now look at the West. Everything will come back around, the problem is everybody wants things NOW and don't have the patience to see things work their way through.
