I heard from this drunk at the bar last night.......... It must be the end of the world----because there will be wars and rumors of wars. OMG. Sumlin and Chizik got great QBs one year and then.....CRASH!!!!!!

Emainvol.. why do you constantly push the notion of Sumlin being next in line? Its almost like you enjoy cheering for a subpar football team. The coach is garbage. Dooley is better. Period.

Would love to see the two draw X's and O's. Sumlin took the AR, ran with it, and hasn't looked back since. We have a faux football intellectual living off of his family lineage.

You are taking a chance of Sumlin. Just like 97% of the coaches out there.

True in a sense. But you want to take chances that have a better chance of return. My only question is are there better choices available (or even interested) than Sumlin.

but I have now heard that Sumlin has been contacted through informal means.

Could make sense if Wilcox is gone and Hart starts to see that the whole thing is about to implode. Going to be hard to bring new coordinators with a lame duck coach, so an entirely new staff might as well be the solution.

I don't buy into all the "definitely back" stuff just yet.

:crossfingers: Hopefully Dooley will be gone.

Depends on a lot of things. Sumlin isn't my first call, but he's my first call if I've decided to go the mid-major route.

Sumlin may be the next great coach, but he has a very short track record.

Meyer, did it at two different schools with different personnel before he went to FL.

Sumlin would be a huge gamble, and I don't think UT can afford another bad hire.

Meyer was a head coach for four years before taking the Florida job. Same as Sumlin.

Well, the MWC is adding Nevada and Fresno. Also, Hawaii went to a BCS bowl in that general time period. They got killed, but they were no pushover comparatively speaking.

Yeah, well the MWC is getting worse and is a little desperate.

Sumlin one job, one great qb. Its different. Not saying he would be a bad coach, but its not the same thing.

Taking a gamble on anybody is preferable to sticking with the known sure-thing that we currently have - Dooley sucks!

Said the same thing about Meyer with Alex Smith, and he was the #1 pick while Keenum will be a 4th round pick.

You can't point to a guy like Urban Meyer as the rule. That's a good way to get burned. If we're going to start tossing names around, I'd give Charlie Strong a call.

NVM, wasn't you.

That guy who is 14-11 at Lousiville? No thanks.

I assume that we will probably see rumors about every coach in the next few weeks. By the way, I don't think it makes any sense to make a HC change unless you can get a big name. If you can pull a Gruden/Stoops/etc. type of coach, then you make the change. It doesn't make much sense to go out and find a mid-major guy, IMO.

You said Meyer had more HC experience than Sumlin, which isn't true.

That guy who is 14-11 at Lousiville? No thanks.

Thats not what I said. I said he did it at two schools with different personnel. That is more impressive than one school with one great QB. And look at the year Sumlin had injuries -- he was 5-7

Emain, from the places you're hearing this mentioned, are they usually credible?

One was here, two were elsewhere and I have no reason to doubt either. That said, it's all second hand info, as most rumors are. From a standpoint of logic, it makes sense that we are putting feelers out there, especially if Hart thinks Dooley is a lame duck like many others do.

Bottom line, you hear something once, and you can shrug it off, but if you keep hearing it and you start to think there may be fire

Strong has done a fairly good job considering the talent level. Kragthorpe had the program back in the dumps. Most of the woes have come offensively.

The guy who was one of the best SEC DCs of the past decade and who has done a good job as a HC in a bad situation? I'd take him in a heartbeat. Not to mention a big time recruiter.

I'm just not sold yet on Strong.
