I heard this morning that a caller on sportstalk called in and said that we should bench Bradshaw. To me, that has to be the dumbest comment I've ever heard. Yes, Dane is not a scorer but that is not his value to the team. We have enough people who can put the ball in the basket and do not need him to score. He adds so much value to the team by hustle plays such as assists, steals, rebounds, etc. Whoever said that this morning must not understand basketball very much b/c every team in the SEC or any D1 conference would love to have a Bradshaw caliber player on their team who does all the little things that many players fail to do.

Yeah, I'm sure Florida would love to replace Corey Brewer with Bradshaw. I bet Roy Williams lies in bed at night and wishes he was starting Bradshaw at the 4 instead of Brandan Wright. I'm sure there is a huge market out there for slow 6'4" guys who can't shoot.

Wow, pretty strong feelings there Hatvol. So basically you are saying that you agree with Dane being benched. I agree with you that brewer and Wright are better and never said he was as good as them but you cannot tell me that he has not been a clutch player for UT the last 2 years. I admit, his freshman and soph. years, I couldn't stand him b/c he wasn't a playmaker and turned the ball over too much, but he has vastly improved his game. Teams do not need 5 shooters on the court at the same time.

Not at all. He's the best option we have at this time. I simply don't spend my time trying to prop him up into something he's not. He plays hard and keeps the ball moving in the halfcourt offense. Otherwise, he doesn't add much to the equation.

Yeah... We just got done arguing this in the Jordan Howell thread. There's plenty of evidence and reasoning on both sides, including a ton of "what if" featuring Major Wingate.

Enjoy. :)

Would it be too much to ask for you to have something worthwhile to say? Stick to trolling the internet for dates and playing guitar hero. You have to play to your strengths.

Did anyone else hear that on the radio this morning though? I was wondering if it was that guy Mike who irritates the living heck out of me everyday calling into every Sportstalk show with all of his negative and uneducated remarks about something or someone at UT.

Unfortunately, I missed the actual part of this debate that was about Dane, but I want to weigh in on the side of: it's sad that he's the best that we have to offer at the 4 position. I like Dane and the way he plays, but he is not an SEC caliber forward (small or power) in any way shape or form. He's 6'4" in some Ace Frehley style stacks. We spend more time making excuses for his height in defending him because he has to play larger players. Chuck Barkley is the same size, yet people weren't having to discuss his "heart" in discussing his play. Again, Dane fan, but hate all of the overblown Dane love around here.

I think he should be benched. He can't hit a lay up. He missed 4 uncontested lay ups in the KY game. Check out his shooting stats in todays paper. Whole article on how bad he is playing. He can't box out during FT. Let him come off the bench and see if he can add a couple baskets that way. When he shoots I consider it a turn over.

Bradshaw is playing with an injured shoulder supposedly. He played last year with the injured wrist. I don't think Bradshaw is so valuable that he has to play hurt this year. Last year he probably did because of the lack of depth.

Isn't there another player on the team who can contribute more then an injured Bradshaw? Bradshaw wasn't a great shooter when he was healthy, injured he's terrible.

Here is the end-all to the Dane debate:

Dane Bradshaw is a solid contributor on a team, due to past coaches' doing, is being forced into a more major role than his talent is capable of dealing with. We all love his tenacity, heart, and ability to play unselfishly. However, through no fault of his own or from Bruce Pearl, he is being counted for mounting, precious minutes that in 2-3 seasons, he wouldn't have if he were here. As much as CBP loves Bradshaw, he knows Dane's scoring ineffeciencies hinder this team. Yes, he dishes out 4.9 assists per game, and this is a great thing he does. However, many other weaknesses in his game do slow down the team. Pearl has to play Dane, as the cupboards weren't stocked when he took over. Dane is a perfect 10-12min/game guy who comes off the bench as a wildfire.

I think we can all agree with this.

I think you've mixed Dane up with R. Smith, which missed three layups in the UK game. I read yesterday that Dane had hit only 5 of his last 42 shots. That's less than 15%.

No confusion what so ever. After the great game Dane had against LSU (LOL), I made sure I counted how many points Dane cost us during the KY game. He was 0-5, shot and missed one 3 pointer and missed 4 uncontested layups. It's not hard to tell the difference between Dane and Ramar when they are out there on the court.

he missed 4 very makeable shots, but not uncontested layups.

Another great game by the Lame Dane. 1-4, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 POINTS!!!Nobody played their best game, but this guy has got to be benched! He's just plain terrible game in game out. Give someone else a shot. I'd rather see Crews, Tabb, and I can't believe I'm saying this but Childress get the start over Dane.
