Keys to beating Fla. at Tenn.

let me clarify, i don't think we are better than florida, but i do think we can beat them.

no, i'm not, everyone is getting all up in arms trying to figure out how we can possibly win this game. it's simple, play a whole game and don't get lazy, take stupid shots, etc. i don't think that florida is half the juggernaut everyone else makes them out to be. think about it, we were in florida, if we had played the same second half against them, but had only been down by say 15 at halftime, we end up making it close.
I'm not sure it's worth any more argument. We drilled 'em in the second half after being down a jillion in the first, so we can play with 'em. So technically, we're 1-1 against them this season. How's it look if we break it down by the minute? second? millisecond?

no sir, we are 0-1, i said it right after the game, it sucks that they outclassed us in the first half, or else we might be singing a different tune right now. it's been the same story in all of our losses, we just normally quit in the second half, not come out flat in the first.

im saying, we played one splendid half of basketball, we needed to play two
think we could petition to play two second halves? I'm sure we could do it at home by flipping a simple switch on the scoreboard.

You hear that LG, we're playing two second halves at TBA, so don't go rollin' into Ktown thinkin' you're gonna play another 1st half like the one in Gainesville

i will admit it is hilarious. i believe he is trying to get a rise out of me in two different threads now.

no rises needed. just a bit flabbergasted by your reasoning re: the second half at UF.

well, if we had given up and not played the second half, i would be talking about how it would be almost impossible for us to beat florida, but they kept fighting, even when we were way down. it impressed me, and gave me reason to think we can beat them. i am more impressed with the lack of quit than the actual half.

then let's talk about heart and all of the things that Bradshaw brings to the table, but not about our ability to play with UF.

i can understand why some would find my opinions to be a bit of a reach, but i think we can play with them, not inside mind you, but we are talking about two completely different styles of basketball that are brought to the table. if we play ours well and for a whole game, i think we win in knoxville. i, and probably you and most others, hope i am right.

Its just one game with Florida and anything can happen.

When you look at the tourney, though, right now UT's obvious problem is lack of size and depth underneath. If you are making your perimeter shots, you can contend. But at least somewhere along the way you won't and the lack of a front court game dooms you... somewhere along the way.

I'll take it a step further. If we're hitting the 3 AND generating lots of turnovers to make up for our utter lack of any half court D, then we have a shot. Turnovers and rebound putbacks have to make up for our typical negative FG% differential. Teams with good guards or lots of experience eat up our laissez faire press then shoot about 60% against us. Florida happens to fit both of those desctriptions and they lead the country in FG%. Tough set of facts for the Vols, but we can continue to hope.
