Still waiting for Hatevol

Okay, you guys are starting to scare me. Tell you what. Go get on a plane to L.A. and sit in a sports bar this weekend and tell me if the conversations about the NFL don't run 3 to 1 about Bush or Lenihart (or even Young) over Peyton Manning. Enough already!!

Those guys are both from LA. If you pick some random town that doesn't have an NFL franchise, or a major college team, I guarantee they are more aware of Manning than of a few former Trojans or any other NFL player for that matter. Watch TV for an hour and count how many commercials air featuring Manning. The Michael Jordan comment is pretty on target in that regard.

as an ohioan, for every 10 who know where vince young went to college, about 5 now where Peyton went.

You are simply wrong, sir. See below.

You are correct and thankyou for proving my point.

I laugh at you telling me I am wrong.

I also laugh at someone saying for every 10 there are 5 rather than for every 2 there is 1. If that is what your argument is based upon, you need to find some stronger support.

As for the state of Ohio being aware of Vince Young's college, I think that might have a little bit to do with the recent Ohio State-Texas matchups that were deemed legendary games before they were even played. Those hypefests got a good portion of Ohio fired up about beating the Longhorns, ruining Young's Heisman chances, and then avenging Young's domination of the Buckeyes.

The irony is that, notwithstanding his motivation of hating the Gators, I completely agree with hatvol that Manning's UT resume is missing the big accomplishments.

It's the Super Bowl. It's like sleeping with Miss America, it don't matter if they called you ugly before, you just slept with Miss America. I don't care either that you put "UT resume". The knock against him was "can't win the big game", not "can't win the big COLLEGE game". I'm sure the next reason Peyton isn't great will be he only got a half-moon on that trainer.

Danny Wuerffel's life resume is missing the big accomplishments. He works non-profit. Peyton make money. 'Nuff said.

Now go watch your Wuerffel and Spurrior NFL highlights....oh wait, they couldn't make it.

I guess I just take pride in what the guys who went to Florida did WHEN THEY WERE AT FLORIDA as opposed to what they did after they left it. Guess that makes me a college fan more than a pro fan, but I've always been that way anyway.

I don't think anyone would really give a crap about Peyton Manning's NFL career if he hadn't performed well at UT. Everyone continuously points out that Vol fans weren't excited enough about Cedrick Wilson getting a Super Bowl last year. I think it's because he wasn't a big star for UT.

kpt i agreed with you up until my move to norfolk last year. I find very few people up here that know that peyton went to UT. They know Reggie went to USC and Young to that other UT, but i'm pretty sure it's only because they just graduated.

You could be right. Still, as time goes on, if the Titans don't improve, they won't get the national attention and Vince Young's popularity will diminish. The same could potentially happen to Reggie Bush, but I doubt it will.

As I said, its whoever the draft guys were talking about last that are the hot commodity. Until the next year.

I typed in 10 trying to think of the number. I was going to say 3, but I thought that was a little low. I didn't bother changing it. I assume most people are smart enough to figure it out, I didn't really see a need to change it.

Also, anyone who watched the 2006 rose bowl knows VY went to Texas, and I would think that is a majority of sports fans.

It will take a long time for people to forget his 467 yards in the national championship game.

Out of curiosity, how many people do you think know Jay Cutler is from Vandy?

Outside of you, me, and his belligerent father? I'd say about 4.

But he did not get nearly the press that Young and Bush got.

Cutler was a good prospect, but he didn't have a huge game like Young did when everyone was watching, and ESPN said Reggie Bush about 4 times for every 2 sentences.

That seems so logical, and I tend to agree. However, who really remembers Justin Vincent? A lot of people (probably myself included) will never forget Young's performance, but just as many if not more won't remember it.

Maybe, but I would give it at least 5 years, assuming his pro career is nothing that sticks out, before most fans start to push it out. I personally will remember 467 for another 20 years. (speaking of that, I am assuming that is the correct amount. Don't want to sound all smart and end up being stupid.)

convenient seeing as how the biggest gators under Spurrier never turned out to be worth anything in the NFL, or maybe that's just why....there just aren't that many to begin with that you CAN be proud of? either way, pond or pool.

to be fair...i did say "not that many"....and Emitt wasn't under Spurrier...he left after his Jr.year....BECAUSE of spurrier.

but Emmitt is the only one you could claim that has the star power or whatever that peyton has....but i know that what he did while with the cowboys didn't matter to you either.

my only point was the guys that were at FL during their hay day under spurrier never really panned out or were of any real impact on the league like peyton has been. i would hardly put Fred Taylor or Alex Brown in Peyton's compnay in that category.

basically, you have no frame of reference here LG to adequately comment on a TN fan's feelings toward what a guy like Peyton meant while at TN and afterwards when compared to what FL fans would feel about a gator after his career....so it make it makes sense to say you don't care about it....because there just aren't any that are comparable.

I live in the DC area, and the people I work with were all giving me a hard time about peyton not winning the big one the week before the super bowl. They know I went to Tennessee and they immediately made the associaton. Do I think the same is true of vince young and reggie bush? yes i certainly do. Do I think there is any way of proving that any of these guys is any "more associated" with their colleges than the others? No I don't.

Regardless, people know that peyton went to UT.
