well hat i am suprised...... you are busting other folks balls about "what D-1 school did they play at and you did not play D-1 either.......

and before you take a shot at me i have never intimated that i did.
If you'll actually read the entire thread, I didn't start the entire idiotic questioning of who played where. I think it is totally irrelevant. However, if someone wishes to continue to push that as being meaningful to the discussion, it is only logical to see if their credentials really merit giving them extra credibility. Otherwise, any rube who has served on some podunk city council can claim to have special expertise in the operation of the United States Senate.

Sweet. I know you had mentioned Mr. Balloff before in previous posts, so I wondered if you had crossed paths with Neil, too. Quite a few "members of the tribe" teach at UT and/or are boosters there.
Mr. Balloff is one of my favorite people on the face of the earth. If you know him, you're OK in my book.

While I disagree with hat about one's experience needing to be D1 to understand and comment, but I am in 100% agreement regarding Dane (per my earlier comments) and his ability to contribute at the D1 level. Now that we're back on topic, let's get off of this commentator buzzword special kick about hustle and leadership and glue and find a solution that makes us better either offensively or defensively or both.
I don't think D-1 experience is a prerequisite for comment. I was simply pointing out the absurdity of acting as if that was some sort of criteria for intelligent discussion.

I know of him through his family and the local synagogue (that Bruce goes to, incidentally). Carpooled to Sunday school with his grandkids.

If I catch you at a post-sporting event Volnation gathering, we can discuss any connections further. You going to the SEC tourney down here? I need to start looking for tix.

Hat is the Lord Jesus himself, no one knws anything as much as he does. don't argue its a waste of typing.

Soliciting support by villifying the other guy is absolutely pathetic. If I couldn't find a better argument, I would simply go away and choose to fight in another thread.

I apparently missed an earlier thread and think the premise is absolutely stupid. Major Wingate played D1 ball and I don't think we're going to add any extra credence to his opinions.

Do Richard Rose, Rich Gann, or Travis Hawkins ring any bells?
Rich Gann does. I believe he used to hang out with my friend, Lee Bright. If somebody was on a class other than the '96 group, I probably didn't interact with them, because the Law School was under construction while I was there and we were scattered all over campus for classes.

Lawrence Frank never played college ball at any level. I believe I'll still listen to his opinion.

I never said give me a whole team full of Dane Bradshaws, but I think everyteam needs one. He might not be athletic, but he's a smart player for the most part. and above that he's a leader

I will actually be at the Mountain West Conference tournament in Las Vegas the weekend the SEC is being held in Atlanta.

Are you saying we would get worse if we replaced Bradshaw with a better player who's not as smart or as much of a leader?

Those attributes hardly make up for ability and that is absolutely the point.

Well Big Papa, why isnt passley playing for bradshaw?

because he makes more negative plays than his positive plays can make up for. Bradshaw is rapidly approaching that status because he can't contribute many positive plays.

Get over it, he could play if he could shoot a lick. He can't and shouldn't be playing. Other players with his athletic ability aren't playing at SEC type schools unless they can make some shots and force the D to at least acknowledge that they are on the floor.

you have to have some sort of knowledge of the game. i rather have someone who is smart, and might lack the athleticism, than have an athlete w/ no bball smarts

are you kidding me. Stephon Marbury is an absolute retard, but we'd make that trade all day long. I'll assure you he's only the tip of the iceburg, because basketball players can be completely stupid and still compete.

Hate to reply twice, but the guy is 6'3" in heels and is a mediocre athlete. Smart does not, nor will it ever, make him an SEC caliber player.

Personally, I'm not sure why he keeps getting bashed. The whole 'he's only getting minutes because we don't have anyone better' angle is about as deep as a puddle. He's not an SEC caliber player? Look at some of the numbers from the Florida game preview on UTsports.com.

Big Game Dane
Three times in his career Dane Bradshaw has made a late shot to knock off a nationally ranked team ... Two of the teams that fell victim to his late-game heroics were unbeaten entering the game.
Jan. 21, 2006 his lay-up with 20 seconds left gave UT a 78-76 lead and eventually an 80-76 victory over No. 2 Florida. The Gators entered the game with a 17-0 record and were the last unbeaten team in the nation.
Feb. 22, 2006 his steal of an inbounds pass and layup with 15 seconds left gave Tennessee a 74-72 lead and a 76-72 win at 12th-ranked Florida. The win gave the Vols the 2005-06 SEC Eastern Division title.
Dec. 18, 2006 against 11-0 and 15th-ranked Oklahoma State he stole the ball with 20 seconds left and then hit the game-winning tip-in over OSU's 6-7 Mario Boggan and 6-8 David Monds with 1.9 seconds left to give the Vols a 79-77 victory.
Bradshaw Does It All
One of the most versatile players in the nation, Dane Bradshaw can and will play any position for the Vols from point guard through power forward ... Originally recruited to UT as a point guard, the 6-foot-4 Bradshaw started every game last season at power forward for the Vols ... In 2005-06 the Memphis native was second on the team in assists (116), rebounding (5.4 rpg), and third in steals (56) and blocks (11) while his assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.76 led the SEC ... Had a streak of 181 minutes (seven games) without a turnover as a junior last year.
Bradshaw leads the Vols in assists (106) and is second in steals (42) and blocks (13).
He has led the Vols in assists 14 out of 22 games this year and recorded a career-high nine dimes against Coppin State (11/19/06).
Had nine assists against one turnover while adding seven points and seven rebounds against Tennessee Tech (12/28/06).
In SEC games he is averaging 6.0 assists per game and has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.6.

And let's not add the leadership quality or the fact that he can play any position on the floor, regardless of stature. And how many times has he been matched against a guy that, when you look at them, seems twice his size. But he still got those numbers didn't he?
Rock on, Dane!
