i'm not a huge women's bball fan granted, but jeez...gimmie a break.Do you realize how patheitc that sounds? The once proud University of Tennessee fans flocking to women's basketball games because, hey, that's what we're good at?

Men's bball was an afterthought and women's bball, well, we are the flagship program in that sport. just because some TN fans are proud of that, doesn't make them pathetic. it makes them fans of everything UT.
and if you're going to do something might as well try and be the best at it...and when it comes to women's bball, they are. Despite what you or i or anyone else may think about the women's game or it's place amont other major sports, the fact still remains....the lady vols are important to a good many TN fans. and i say kudos to them for it.
my personal attitude towards the lady vols not withstanding, i'm sure as hell not going to call someone pathetic because they are actually proud of the fact that they are good.
LG, i usually think most of your posts are well intended and entertaining and for a gator fan, you generally have a realistic view of things, both for FL and UT....but this one...this one is a little ridiculous.
Yes, I know of at least Wayne Chism.
From a purist standpoint, women's basketball is much more fundamentally sound than men's.
Don't get me wrong. If you like it because you genuinely find entertainment value in it, then watch it all you want. Whatever floats your boat.
What I was saying was that if your reason to watch it is because your school is competitive in it and isn't in other things, then that seems like a rather weak reason to me to watch it. I'd rather spend my time interested in and rooting for my mediocre football team than watching my #1 women's basketball team just because they win. And that seems to be what his friend was saying.
Overall, I think most people out there in College Sports Fan World put women's basketball on their list of priorities at about the same level of foot hygiene. Oh sure, some are into it. But not many. And certainly not most.
I applaud Pearl for what he did. He's showing solidarity with the women's program. And if that gets more people interested in it for the right reasons, i.e. they like it, then great.
I'm just saying that I would never be one of those people, no matter what the gimmick someone tried to get me to watch it. And I dare say that goes for 90 % of college sports fans. So, I actually think that you, Jake, are the one who is not being very realistic.
I'm just telling it like it is: Women's College Basektball is boring.
Now that is really cool. Despite what some people think about Pearl doing it, that shows a closeness between he and his players that is cool. That can be nothing but good for current players and HS players he plans on recruiting in the future. I am on the side that it was great that he did it. It shows the man has extreme confidence, he is not worried about what others may think of him. Winning shuts everyone up and I think he is pretty confident he will win big time.
That being said, I still watch it. It doesn't bother me that it's not played at the same level as the men. It just is what it is.
I agree with that. Comparing it to men's BB is just ridiculous. You can't go into it like that, it is women's BB, a totally different game. You have to view it for what it is. Is it near as exciting as men's BB? Hell no. But if UT is ranked high in a sport and it's on TV, I am probably watching it.
what, taking pride in something your school does well is wrong or something? who are you to decide why someone should or should not root for a particular sport? just because you find it boring, and unwatchable, doesn't mean that someone that doesn't is pathetic....regardless of why they tune in.Don't get me wrong. If you like it because you genuinely find entertainment value in it, then watch it all you want. Whatever floats your boat.
