At what point do you NOT bring him back so you have him for the full year next year? With Santos "wavering" on his decision it seems like it would be best to save him for next year.

He's already a redshirt junior. There's no "saving" him for next year, he's back regardless.

Now, can he attempt to get a 6th year? Yes, but that happens later on.

what happens with Lathers has nothing to do with what happens with Santos. the two are not related.

Probably not back until SC and even then will be very rusty and not very effective. On that note, we should be cautious about Hunter being the same player next year that he started out to be this year. Way too many skill position players that shred an ACL are never the same - see Greg Childs at Arkansas and others. He will still be good because he's such a superior athlete anyway, but probably best to take a wait and see approach

I have to wonder how effective can he be this season? he can't seem to stay healthy for some reason & that sucks. i was impressed with him his freshman season & thought he's gonna be a good lb for us.

Do you really think Santos will come in and compete for a starting position?
I hope this is the last time we see freshmen starting at linebacker!

The medical redshirt is usually only given if the player was not previously redshirted or was redshirted with the same injury. Does anyone know if this is the case or did he redshirt as a freshmen?

Medical redshirts are hard to get. He will still have another year regardless, so there's no reason to keep him out of action this year.

Since Herman didn't play in the fall he may not start this season and if he does who would he replace?

im on board with this - i hope to God Santos isnt starting next year or we could have some real problems again at this position - that should be AJ's spot with Lathers and CM on the outside

I think if Lathers comes back healthy, the staff would want to move AJ inside and let Herm and Maggit play outside. Playing AJ outside is going to eventually get us killed. We've got to find some depth outside, Sapp or someone else.

This is spot on. Guys, don’t get me wrong I like Santos. He seems like a good kid, with a good attitude and passion for playing the game. However, outside that, he is nothing to write home about. While he flies to the ball and has great instincts, he is slow and terrible in coverage. It will take him at least a year to see the field... maybe two. Having said that, I do think he will be a good player at this level, but only after a lot of working with Sirmon. GBO

This.

We must move AJ inside. He is solid, but too slow to play on the outside. Gotta have a faster LB to keep contain.
