Watch out for Duke now, 2 straight wins. Ha ha, j/k. Cutcliffe is freaking amazing, has their QB playing like an NFL prospect and also has/had Thad Lewis in the NFL from Duke too.

It does look like the Vols have a great shot landing Meredith and he seems like an outstanding TE prospect.

It's crazy to think that we might actually be stockpiling talent at a position now.

Well, it's true in one sense, but I mean, Rivera, Clear, Downs are our only TE's right now, so we definitely need the depth. I've been glad to see Downs contribute a bit. Want to see more of Clear though. however, I definitely would say we are stockpiling talent at WR. :)

I'd like to see more of Clear too..... on the defensive line. If he doesn't make the 2 deep at Tight End by Spring ball, then coaches are going to have to get serious with him and look at a position change to offensive tackle or d-line. Downs played solid against Cincy and I suspect we will see more of him or Clear against Buffalo.

Why? We need more than two tight ends. Rivera is gone after next year anyways.

Just for info, Chaney did call Trolinger the other night. Kid is putting up impressive #s on both side of ball. He will be at Buffalo game.

Clemson hit their TE 11 times yesterday. LOL

No, I don't believe they did. Dwayne Allen did make a couple big catches on 3rd down though, IIRC. He made 4 catches for 67yards and 1 TD. I think he was the only TE to catch a pass for Clemson.

They went to another one as well but the TE is a huge part of their offense.

Didn't mean to move the discussion to Clemson, just thought it was odd they weren't recruiting Meredith more heavily when they don't have a TE committed in the 2012 class and he is in their backyard, or the fact he isn't looking at them.

With that being said, Clemson only threw to their TE 4 times yesterday I just reviewed the box score, so that stat above is incorrect. They have hit their TE 11 times the past TWO GAMES combined (7 times in the Auburn game). I missed the fact the TE was utilized a lot in the Auburn game, so my assumption that they don't throw to their TE was incorrect, although they didn't use him a lot against FSU. I think throwing to a TE 11 times in two games is basically average and decent use of a TE. Also, their TE is a Jr. I believe, so he will probably be back next year, much like Rivera. Meredith probably wants to get out of South Carolina, which is my best guess as to why he isn't considering Clemson.

That's a lot more than the "not once" you stated. Dwayne Allen could easily and probably will declare for the draft after this season. Easily one of the top TE's in the country.

Which is now why I am wondering why Clemson isn't going after Meredith harder, or why he isn't interested. Maybe you can enlighten us since your also a Clemson supporter and may know something about who they are recruiting. I don't have a clue, but I think a TE would be on their priority list if they have one possibly going to the NFL, unless they are stockpiled at the position. I know they have elite talent at WR and RB. It's just odd they have a 4 star top 15 TE in their backyard and they aren't all over him, especially when they don't have one committed.

They were hard after him before he committed to UNC. They completely dropped communication after that. They don't have a ton of room left for this guy. In the near future I think you are gonna see more of an H-Back type. Someone with flexibility to play in the backfield a bit as well. They do also have Jay Jay McCullough as a TE commit as well.

Staff's persistence while Meredith was committed to UNC is really paying off. This is pretty much a done deal.

Well that solves that. Looks like Clemson got a steal in McCullough. He was listed as an Athlete on Rivals, so that's why I missed that, but your right he is going to be a TE and has prototypical size. He is one of two athletes in the national top 65 that are 6'5, which really stood out to me because you usually don't see many individuals over 6'2 listed as athletes (7 out of the top 65 athletes are larger than 6'2 for the 2012 class). I realized he is listed as an athlete because his 40 time is 4.5 and his vertical is 32 inches. Wow, Clemson is getting another good offensive player looks like a sleeper.

I'm really excited about Justin King. He is ranked as the #65 athlete. I think he has a bright future for Tennessee.
