Pearl Painted Up

Ok, I've slept on it and while I thought it was a funny idea last night, I don't think it's such a good idea this morning.

It is a bit of a stretch.Although I do admire the team spirit/support.

That'd be hilarious. :rock2:

I'd watch a women's basketball game just to see if he did it.

This is doing nothing to assuage my kind of embarrassing man-crush on Bruce Pearl. I love the enthusiasm and intensity he's brought to what was a completely moribund men's basketball program; if he were a football coach, you can bet his players would never be called out after a game by a running back for not wanting to tackle him.

Having said that, for him to sit shirtless with a painted chest in the student section would be just a little much. He'd be on Sportscenter, on PTI, you name it. They'd kill him. Maybe he can just paint his face or something.

Of course it would be on SportsCenter and PTI and Rome is Burning or whatever, and of course they would crucify him, but it's all marketing. Any publicity is good publicity, and I think Pearl's more than fine with being seen as a "brilliant nutjob" - as long as he's winning. The UT men's basketball team has been in the news more in the last 2 years than it has in the previous 10 combined. And we're not Duke or Kentucky - this is a team that lost in the 2nd round of the Big Dance last year, and is ranked #22 currently.

It's all about building for the future. I firmly believe that Bruce Pearl wants to win a National Title here, and in order to do it at a school that has never even come remotely close to that goal, you've gotta shake things up a bit.

Which is not to say that we can't do a good bit of winning right now. And he already has.

I sure hope not. There is a distinct difference between being enthusiastic and coming across as an attention seeking nutjob. I hope Bruce comes to his senses. He is too good for silly stunts like that.

Not saying I condone the action (although it would be the most hilarious scene of the year), but CBP has been out going about the influence of Ray Mears on his stay here. Coach Mears wasn't exactly the most sane person in the world. I say go for it (with shirt). Imagine most recruits who saw this might actually believe he is just fun loving and really cares about what he's trying to do at UT. Most FB recruits come here because of the stability of the coaching staff. That kind of support for another team "in the family" could work towards showing that he is commited to the same kind of stability... Just a thought.

Some of you probably heard last night that Bruce Pearl was pretty hyped about the Lady Vols game versus Duke this coming Monday. Apparently he wasn't too happy with the way our fans were treated there last year and was begging for a big turn out. He was talking about showing up at the game and sittng in the student section with no shirt and his chest painted orange. :dance2:

You know Hamilton is probably not thrilled with the idea and today on Hooker's show Pearl sounded like he was backing up just a bit.

So, you think he will follow through?

Well, he did. And whether it's gonna be talked about in a good or bad way, it's gonna be talked about.

I didn't watch the game tonight, so I didn't get to see it. Anyone have any pictures, I need a good chuckle before I hit the sack.

Bruce knows EXACTLY what he is doing. The more Bruce makes the Natl. Press the better. Better for recruiting and better for getting more games on natl. TV. There's absolutely no such thing as bad press.

Okay, he has officially gone from University of Tennessee Enthusiast to needing to see some men in white coats.
