He currently has 1404 yards...if he can rush for 1,000 yards in our last ten games, then he will finish as our 8th highest career rusher...just ahead of Montario Hardesty, Charlie Garner, and Travis Stephens to name a few and right behind Jay Graham and Cedric Houston. That doesn't sound too bad to me for a player that many want to see lose his job to a freshman.

Just because he'd be ahead of them (Hardesty, Garner) doesn't mean he's better

What's strange is that with all the great backs in TN history that it's so easy for some to finish high up in our rankings. Poole is a good back, but not one I think of when I think of the best. Injuries and Johnny's rotations had a lot to do with that... plus Garner was a Juco.

Of course not. Average at best, right?

IF you take the names and faces away then compare a guy whose stats will have come behind the OL last year and this compared to guys who ran behind much more experienced OL's... then you can't just dismiss Poole.

You may not like him. You may not think he is talented. But at the end of the day, one thing counts.... production. Did you happen to read the article on the front page about Poole?

Poole isn't flashy. He doesn't have "elite" talent. He's a guy with very good talent who has been coachable... and worked his tail off. For some unknown reason, that is distasteful to some people here. Somehow they cannot give a guy his fair due if he gets what he gets through hard work rather than natural talent.

Being older and probably more experienced with people than many here... I appreciate the guy who may have a little less talent but can always be counted on to give everything he's got. I have seen way too many "talented" people fail because they didn't work hard.

Poole also is benefiting from getting to play 12 regular season games instead of 11. One extra game (typically against cupcakes) has got to help some.

recently we've been surrounded by less talented players who give "everything they've got." It's how we ended up with Nick Reviez and Rick Clausen being starters. I understand what they gave to UT and do appreciate it but we need elite talent coupled with that attitude if we're going to win this league.

Agreed. Attitude, ethic and gusto are all great things to have on a team, but they don't win titles. Only one thing does that: Talent.

just giving the stats folks...not trying to say anyone is better than anyone else...they are all VOLS, I love them all...and yes i do understand we will probably be playing 13 games and he could rush for more than 100 a game on average...just time for our fanbase to give a very good producer his due and quit calling for his head....ludicrous

I'm not sure Poole will rush for 1000. It's pretty obvious the coaches want Lane to be the back in the future, IMO.

Well considering Poole is a senior and Lane is a freshman, that's not too hard to figure out.
Not quite what I mean. Lane will get more and more carries throughout the year.

I'm not sure Poole will get enough carries for 1000 yards.

I think Lane actually had fewer carries in the Cinci game than he did in the Montana game. It may have been due to the fumble.....but it looks like Poole will see 20+ carries a game.
