Myself and some friends plan on coming down for a game this year and instead of sitting in one place tailgating or at a bar all day we'd like to walk around and check out all the sites to be seen.

Is carrying a cooler of beer and a beer in hand around town and around campus permissible? We'd like to just drink and walk around and check out the tailgating, the river scene, campus, etc.

That should be fine, but better put your beers in a cup to stay safe. Generally they won't say anything regardless, especially if you are older than college age, but I've never seen anyone get called out when their drink was in a solo cup.

Even when I was in college there I walked around with a solo cup full of bourbon on gameday. If you aren't making an a$$ out of yourself, you won't get a second look from Johnny Law. Have a great time!!!

UT is a dry campus but just cover it with a coozy or put it in a solo cup. personally i get a 20 oz bottle of coke and fill it about halfway up with Jack

"legal" on game day and not enforced are two different things. It isn't legal to have an open container in public in the state of TN.

Even when you pour it in a cup make sure it's in a designated area or out of sight. I had a beer in my hoodie pocket a few years back & was pouring it in a cup discreetly walking to the game but evidently a cop saw me & said I could pour it out or pay $120 fine. I was literally a few feet from people tailgating & drinking too.

I got a ticket walking to the stadium. Had my beer in a cup, wasn't being rowdy. Just walking to the stadium with 3 other people, the cop walked up and asked what was in the cup. I had to pour it out, of course, and got a ticket worth over $100. Was also threatened with a trip to jail. So no, I would not advise walking around with a cooler of beer.

sure - go up to a motorcycle cop and offer him one...they are really friendly in K town. They'll give you a place to stay for 5 hours or so and new friends to meet.

You bunch of liars! Trying to ruin a good time! There is absolutely nothing wrong with walking the streets with beer in hand. Don't believe any of these make believe stories. Grab your beer and hold it high!
