Stakes are raised for Fulmer - Nashville, Tennessee - Tuesday, 01/09/07 - Tennessean.com

I am glad that Biddle, Chris Low, Frank Wycheck and other mid-TN sports media types are finally beginning to publicize and discuss some of these statistics regarding Fulmer's lack of success against good competition. We talk about this stuff all the time on the messag boards but I think a lot of people are just being exposed to these numbers for the first time and most of the "non-partisan" responses I am seeing/hearing suggest that people are not happy with the record.

The sports talk guys in Chattanooga have no problem calling a spade a spade! Kind of refreshing when I get to listen. The guys up in Knoxville seem to be having a problem coming up with any new defense these days! John Adams excluded!

Middle Tennessee sports talk has always bad mouthed UT sports. They did it with CJM and now they do it with CPF. They have done so pretty much every year. I remember the wise Biddle not giving UT a chance against the Noles. This is nothing new. It is a Vandy Complex.

Haystacks may have something to worry about. When kissa$$ homers like Hyams start criticizing you, things aren't going well.

Here goes a diatribe:

Another problem in Knoxville is that CPF has these guys by the privates. I am convinced that if they go after him too hard, he just eliminates their access. Which eventually takes food off of the table for the writers. With the loss of access comes a total lack of accountability. I know its hokey and oversimplified, but KNS reporting typically borders on irresponsible.

I am not convinced that a new head coach would hold that same power.

I've heard Hyamms criticize CPF before. Both Peach Bowls (deserving) all the trouble some of our players got into last year (deserving) and the way we finished the season in 05 (deserving).

But Biddle and the Middle Tennessee sports talk crew seem to have a little brother complex about UT vs Vandy, almost as bad as the crew in Memphis.

Travel more Lex. KNS crew is much tougher on CPF than some papers are on their coaches. Not saying the are the toughest but better than most.

Also, all coaches have the power of access. I read somewhere that Arky closed their practice this past year or maybe the year beffore. Coaches do hold that power, all coaches.

Thanks VB my illiterate soul appreciates the enlightenement. Compared to the papers Lexington, Louisville, and the AJC, the guys at the KNS are typically running scared.

I guess when you are used to reading Billy Reed and Jerry Tipton just about anything else is dissapointing. Climer is easily my favorite in TN.

I didn't insinuate or call you illiterate. And I didn't say that the KNS was the toughest on UT. But they are at least par for a paper in the major school town.

Jerry Haskew and Scott McMahan are about morons... I stopped listening to them a couple years ago after listening about 15 years, when I realized I was infinitely smarter than them, or at least what they say on the air. They talk out of the sides of their mouths, and are only popular b/c they are the only show in town.

As far as John Adams, I have actually exchanged emails with Adams on a few occasions where he was critical of Fulmer when I thought he shouldnt be. So Adams isnt quite the homer you are making him out to be, he may support Fulmer overrall, but Ive seen him criticize him several times.

I am afraid that my hometown paper was harder on my highschool team than those guys are on UT. I find their remarks tempered to suit CPF, and agree that if they turn on him, you know the ship is sinking.

Papers are harder on almost all highschool coaches. I think the KNS is about the same as other papers in scholl towns.

I think the crew at KNS is far more graceful than others. ( In championship towns. ) Maybe a trip to Lexington would do you some good.

Been there many times. Really enjoy watching the ponies run. I like Louisville better as I am more of a Derby fan. But I have been to your town.

I am a 100% Keeneland man, but I do like some of the remodeling changes at Churchill.

The Daily Beacon is even worse. Every win is monumental. Every loss, no matter how humiliating, was a great effort and showcased great progression and improvement.
