Some kids say they thought they saw a guy with a gun at Va Tech campus.

Place is shut down.

Hope it's nothing but it's proving to be a good test of the alert system.

Haven't found anything yet.

That's not good. I have a couple of friends at Va Tech. Hope nothing happens.

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Virginia Tech was locked down Thursday when three children attending a summer camp said they saw a man holding what looked like a gun, an unsettling report on the campus where a 2007 massacre left 33 people dead.

The university issued an alert on its website at 9:37 a.m. Thursday telling students and employees to stay inside and lock their doors.

The children said they saw the man walking fast toward the volleyball courts, carrying what might have been a handgun covered by some type of cloth. Police swarmed the area but said they could not find a gunman matching their description. The university said on its website that no one else has reported a person with a gun or anything suspicious.

This is one of those things where I'm torn between the idea of how bad it could be if this were true vs what makes a reasonable threshold to locking down an entire campus.

If those children had their own guns with them, like they obviously should have, then they could have just shot the guy who might have a gun covered by a cloth and all would be right with the world --

Or they would have probly been well-trained with firemarms and known when and when not to use them and only used them if the situation fully warranted it.

Try again.

or the fact that they were underage would be ignored by our resident undecided voter

This was the first I saw of it and didn't even realize it was actual children who reported it. I just saw bham's post, saw the word kids, and went straight to college kids.

Guess I should read threads closer.

Either way (real or mistake), it is a good test of the alert and response system.

In a press conf. the cops said the kids' report was credible and thus they went forward with the response.

Google "Appalachian Law School shooting" and see what happens when students are permitted to have weapons on campus.

To be fair, both of the armed individuals that incapacitated the shooter were LEOs.

Had they been Capricorn's or Sagittarius's then it would have resulted in lots of deaths.

Seems like everything worked out just fine. Milking this for political theater when it's clearly a bull.
