Maybe this should be in the poly forum but figured opinion would be pretty consistent on this crazy "interpretation" of the 3 Little Pigs from a "child educator"

http://www.publicschoolspending.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Rethinking-the-Three-Little-Pigs.pdf

“ … one of the most fundamental messages of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ is that it belittles straw and stick homes and the ‘lazy types’ who build them. On the other hand, the story extols the virtues of brick homes, suggesting that they are built by serious, hardworking people and are strong enough to withstand adversity.

“Is there any coincidence that brick homes tend to be built by people in Western countries, often by those with more money? That straw homes are more common in non-European cultures, particularly Africa and Asia?”

But the pig with the brick home invites the other pigs to take shelter with him... Seems to have a message of community to me...

Political correctness is killing our country. Not just the schools. Teachers have to teach the state curriculum (which consists of how to score well on standardized tests) rather than teaching the kids what they need to know. Take a cue from some other countries with education. Teach the basics and teach them well. Enough with teaching 3rd graders 5 different subjects and expecting them to master them all. They don't need social studies. They need to be able to do math and spelling and be able to read/write well.

What about the little white piggy that went to the market , cause he had money? The little black piggy had to go home. Then the audacity of the little white pig eating roast beef while laughing at the black piggy cause he had none , causing him to go weee, weee, weee, all the way home.

I completely agree. Not to mention the fact that they've dumbed down so many things that it's hurting our society. When I was middle/high school, I never had to try in school to understand anything. I could be about as lazy as I wanted and still get by with A's and B's. I was in for a real shock when I got into my first engineering course in college. It's been a real struggle to motivate myself to get my coursework done in college. Kids are becoming lazier and lazier the more things are being dumbed down to make it easy for them to understand. Sometimes you just need to put the effort forth to understand something, just for the fact that you can learn the value of hard work. It's no wonder we're being passed in science and math by other countries. They're actually challenging their students and not wasting their time teaching them geography or psychology in school.

Find me one person living in a house made out of straw or sticks who wouldn't take one made out of bricks.

The federal govt needs to stay out of education- this should be handled by states and local school boards. The end!

You interjected race where there was none, and demonstrated your own racist thinking: only white people have money. Congrats.

Not counting hippies, I assume.

Hmmm, well, I probably should have said bricks, wood or adobe.

The only true hippies I ever knew was when we lived on the North Shore of Oahu in 1972. They made pottery in a typical single wall wood house but had a 2 story grass shack out back that had a ladder up to the 2nd floor. At 10 years old I used to climb up there with their son and play with all the funny pipes. They gave us surf boards for Christmas--fun times.

The pigs chose crappy houses. They could have had a brick one but were lazy. In this instance it has nothing to do with wealth or geography.

Definitely reaching there, teach.

Owning a brick home would be stupid, if you are nomadic.

I thought so too until I met the leader of the Kuchi's, the nomadic people who traverse the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He showed me where they were building permanent settlements that they would use mostly in the winter so their kids could get more schooling. They would still keep their tents and move around for most of the year, but saw a need for some permanent dwellings.

I forgot about that part of the story. You're right, the story explicitly states that they could have built out of brick, but were too lazy.

Interesting stuff. They still use tents as their 'homes' though.

Another way of discounting the argument is Most homes in Africa are made of a mud brick, whats easily obtainable to the non-nomadics. Most homes in America are made of wood and Vinyl. So she basically called Americans lazy. Thus making her a terrorist.
