First, let me begin by saying that I have lurked on this board for sometime. I very much enjoy the posts, ideas, thoughts, etc. It was only after watching the game today that I decided to throw my hat into this ring.
Going back to when we played Kansas State in the Cotton bowl, I see a lack of excitement in our team as a whole. Poor discipline, lack of motivation, careless mistakes and miscues, losing to teams we should have beaten. Throw in lackluster performances during the seasonal games to lesser and weaker opponents, barely scraping out victories against the likes of Vandy, Ky, Marshall, etc. I dont expect a NC every year, nor a SEC title every single year, no one does, for that cannot possibly happen. But what I do expect as a ticket paying customer is for our team to lay all on the line.
Somebody has to be held accountable for our sub-par performances. That accountability should begin with CPF. He may not fumble, throw an INT, etc. But he is nonetheless a part of the TEAM. He is the TEAM CEO and leader. The buck must stop with him. He is the general of the outfit. He should be the Patton, the McArthur, the man that the players want to fight for, to give their all for. Evidently, that is not what is happening now, nor has it happened for the last few years. We are not a disciplined team, and we have not been disciplined for some time. There is no spirit in our team as a whole. Somebody needs to light a fire under our teams' behind and get back to playing with some vigor as a whole and complete unit.
Our HS coach demanded respect, accountability, and 100% of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. He always reminded us of what Vince Lombardi once said, and we had it hung on the wall in the locker room:
"
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."
We also had another saying on the wall by Lombardi:
"But I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, his greatest fulfillment of all he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious".
Our coach lived by this Lombardi rule:
"Coaches who can outline plays on a black board are a dime a dozen. The ones who win get inside their player and motivate"
Evidently, our present staff is lacking. Its time for a housecleaning!
