I didn't know too much about this man but I just watched a movie where Al Pacino portrays him and I have to say I think he was brilliant and was doing the right thing. If people want to die and are suffering... what's wrong with assisting them in death? What are your thoughts on Dr. Jack Kevorkian?

If somebody is mentally competent and terminally suffering, I think it is reasonable they should be allowed to decide when and how they die.

Agree 100%. He didn't deserve prison. I don't understand all those activist and protesters.

there are elements of the pro-life crowd that project their beliefs onto terminally ill people who want to end their lives with some semblance of dignity.

the Terry Schiavo case is another example of social conservative busy-bodies interjecting themselves into the private affairs of a family.

Many terminally ill people are in tremendous pain and disoriented. Kevorkian is a hero.

I know Oregon has a policy that allows terminally ill patients to have a doctor end their lives... are there any other states with similar laws?

Just Oregon, according to wiki. By the way, love your avatar - "I watched a snail crawl along the edge of a straight razor. That's my dream; that's my nightmare. Crawling, slithering, along the edge of a straight razor... and surviving. "

The Terry Schiavo case is not a good example. You had a questionable husband that wanted to pull the plug vs the parents holding on for their daughter.

Going to throw my opinion in.

I have no real problem with assisted suicide. It is not so much different than pulling the trigger or popping pills in a home setting. Many patients had/have the capability of administering the lethal amount of drugs themselves. If they are of sound mind, and sign off on it, there is no sense making them living a life of suffering that they have tired of dealing with.
