Just spoke with Four-star LB Dalton Santos. He willl make a decision within two weeks. #Bama, #Tenn, #TAMU.

I would not be surprised if UT gets him.

doesn't look like we're in the final two. that sucks.

I know the optimism runs deep here, and seems like he had a good visit, maybe he'll change his mind, but I just don't him picking us after such a clear cut statement.

Reading is fundamental.

Right on Miramar...I read that he entered his visit with one mindset and came away with another viewpoint. Sounds like we gave him something to think about - at the very least - and maybe he has changed his mind. It seems like he really likes TN. Go VOLS!

This would be a big get for Sirmon. I like our chances against A&M he seemed like he really wanted to play in the SEC and likes the SEC style of play more. Although, Van is only a couple of hours away from A&M, he will probably face constant pressure to play for the Aggies and has already decommitted from one school. A&M is set for a big year this year.

And since their conference shot itself they'll have an easier time having that big year lol.

Wow, this is a great turn of events...I know you can only take a players comments with a grain of salt, but after reading that article and thinking about the context clues I can only come to one conclusion.

“This past week I really had it narrowed down to Alabama and Texas A&M,” Santos said. “I told (Tennnessee linebackers) coach (Peter) Sirmon I would come down there because I really respect the guy.

My dad and I have been a lot of places together,” Dalton said. “It was basically the same thing everywhere you go, but he really liked it here. It is a beautiful part of the country. He really enjoyed it and enjoyed what they have to offer.

“I enjoyed the staff and the campus,” he said. “There are so many good things about the campus, it is gorgeous, the facilities are great, I have been to a lot of places, the facilities are great now, but they are just getting better. That is really cool that they are still improving there.”

Santos has noted that Texas A&M is still in the mix, but it is evident that the style of football in the SEC is conducive to his football mindset.

“The SEC is a big thing to me for sure. The Big 12, they are going to spread the ball out, they are to throw more times than run. In the SEC, that is what I do, I hit people, I come down hill, meet somebody in the hole and try to knock their head off,” he said.

“In the SEC they are running the ball all the time. They are trying to pound it down your throat. And coming from a linebacker, that is what you want. You don’t want them to drop back to throw it every play. You want to meet somebody in the hole and make a collision.”

wow. #1 player on my board now. want.

This visit gave him the opportunity to see he the defensive scheme and how Sirmon wants his LB's to play. They had time to bond. I think the most important aspect that is getting over looked is the challenge. Santos sees this as a challenge proposed to him by Sirmon. What it takes to be an All-American, and how he will be held to a higher standard. He's never been approached like that. I think his eyes were definitely opened on this visit. His father was brought into the fold also. His remarks about how Big12 passes more, and he likes the running SEC offenses because he is a run stopper. Stepping up, and making plays in the gap. That says a whole lot there. I feel real good about this, and I feel he'll be a Vol in the end. UT has everything he's looking for in a school. SEC, Education, Favorable depth chart, and Tradition. Once the pros and cons are weighted, I think he chooses UT.

Santos is bigger than A&M. He has an SEC linebacker's mindset. I think he'll come to understand that. I'm just glad our "part of the country" gave his pops a boner. No homo.

This is great news. I really see it between UT and Bama the way he talks about the S E C. I hope Dooley can reel in this big fish.

It certainly sounds good after reading those quotes. I sure hope you're right, Miramar. This kid has the chance to be a great one. I sure hope it's at UT. :loco:

I think we may land him. Bama has prospects they like better at LB and the kid seems to want to play in the SEC. I certainly like the kid's mentality.

I like where we are now with Santos but we are a long way from his home. That is why I think the comments about Dad are huge. If Dad pushes him to the SEC, then we got a real shot.

Not to bring race into this, but those big white boy linebackers are always knockin' heads off. Zach Thomas, A.J. Hawk, Clay Matthews...they usually mean business.

+1 your damn right.. They bring the wood thats for sure..Hopefully dad convinces him the distance isnt that big of a deal and will be better utilized here than A'm.

blah blah blah scrappy, blah blah blah hustle, blah blah blah fundamentals!

August could bring us Santos, Humphries, and Croom.

Would be ballin.

That would be Boss..I think theres a good chance, esp with Croom and Humphries and someone said Patterson was in August too. If true and we land atleast 3, it would be sick. And I dont think were done with getting July committs yet.
