Jesus, the witch hunt through the UT athletic department has been ridiculous. Fulmer to Hamilton to Pearl then away from Pearl and to Hamilton, now to Jimmy Cheek.

I guess I'm late to the party. What did Blackburn do to save UT from further punishment as mentioned in the article?

He was able to show UT's compliance office didn't turn a blind eye to what Kiffin was supposedly doing.

pretty sure he was the one working hard to keep the univ out of Kiffin's antics

He kept record of the department telling Kiffin not to commit violations that Kiffin went on and committed anyways, making it clear the Athletic Department was not involved and Kiffin did it on his own.

Cliffs notes version: Hamilton moved him from being the UTAD's #2 to being in charge of football operations to babysit Kiffin after he started racking up secondary violations. After he moved over, Kiffin only had 2-3 secondary violations. He also documented every situation with Kiffin well, every time he was told no, etc., and that documentation threw out about 75% of the allegations initially made against the football program.

You don't worry about what Chris Low writes. He's still getting up off his knees and wiping his chin off along with Griffith from their dates with the former coach.

It's become pretty apparent Tennessee has more problems than just a bad athletic director. Sounds like a little more house cleaning may need to take place pretty soon.

Does the University have problems? I bet ultimately the malfunctions of an atlhletic department are hardly a blip on the radar of the actual school.

I really should have enjoyed the 90s more......The 2000's have been filled with sh*tty times for us. Bums me out to watch all of this happen to us. Hopefully we will clean out the rest of the bad apples while we are at our lowest point(our national perception), and not string this out 1-??? more years.

This is the same thing that the Ohio St. AD did 10 years ago. Whats the point of recording it if you don't act on it? Isn't that turning a blind eye!

Cheek is a Gator. He still wears the orange and blue. The Athletic Dept. is in shambles on his watch. What is so maddening, he puts Susan Martin, a known anti-athletics activist, on the AD search committee. She also is a big influence on restrictions that DD is so frustrated with. It is time to make a change at the top.

We don't need these people anywhere near the department. If they are not fired, send them back to their ivory tower in academia where the real world is only a myth.

The lack of strong leadership at this school saddens me.

This is the type of thing that causes big time programs to go down and never come back.

cheek has different aspirations he's not going above and beyond on athletics...he wants UT to be a top 25 academic institution

You realize Cheek was brought to UT for academic purposes right? He doesn't just sit in his office all day waiting for when he can make sports related decisions. Handling the AD is part of his job, but only a small part. The rest of The University of Tennessee Knoxville is more than likely the primary focus of Jimmy Cheek, because once we have the Athletic Director, he will probably go back to worrying about the academic side of the school.
