This is true. At the state park I walk the dog in, every handmade sign uses an apostrophe on every word ending with 's'. I chuckle every time, my English teacher would have a stroke.

Mine, too. I had very good teachers who made sure we knew spelling and grammar. We were a receptive bunch because it was ingrained in us that we needed these basic skills.

I had old battle axe teachers in middle school, hammered home the basics. Grammar and basic arithmetic functions are lost on a disturbing amount of people.

Good. We drove up to Idaho and played Wednesday. Nice little 9 hole course set down in a valley. Left a 7 iron laying on a course a few weeks ago. Received my replacement yesterday. Got it gripped and had them bend the lie for me. Anxious to use it now. Probably Monday. I wish I could come back for for a few days of golf. Few courses I'd like to hit again. Dead Horse is one.

Kidding aside, I wish I had more teachers like that. My grammar is horrible.

I hit the timing right, I had many teachers my folks had, the old style, most retired a year or two after I passed through. I wouldn't know for a fact, but there seems to be a more laissez-faire attitude towards detail now.

I had a teacher last year that literally taught nothing all year. She gave us the book and would sit at her desk and say do pages 110-120.

My boss for a long time was the VP of manufacturing in our company. We were a fairly large company with 18 facilities in the US and a few in other countries. I was in his office one day as he was looking through a stack of applications for a new plant manager at one plant. He pushed a stack across the desk and asked me to help him screen them. We ended with a very small stack of applications and a very full trashcan. Noticing how many I'd trashed, he asked what criteria I used in determining the good from the bad. I told him that as soon as I came across a spelling, grammar or punctuation error, I trashed it. He told me that was how he sorted them, too.

You're probably right. Although, my shortcomings are my own fault. I always hated English classes.

I hated grammar too, I do feel for whoever has to teach it. I can't think of another topic that is that dry and boring end to end.

Lulz. It was a really old school actually, early 1900's i think. If I would apply myself I could have good grades in high school too. I took the practice ACT and had one of the highest scores in my class. Only missed 2 questions on the English part.

i rarely travel outside of blount county to play. royal oaks is my favorite. we used to frequent centennial, but one of my friends moved to california for a job, so we stick to the locals now. i think i'm going to start hitting the range this week, see how my back feels.
