Question is, do we still take him. Looking like we are in a good position for Bowles/Croom/Patterson.
-RivalsCrane went on the visits with his father, Peter. He had never been to Tennessee or California before so he was taking good notes.
"With Tennessee obviously they are in the SEC and football is king," Crane said. "They have great facilities there. Cal being in Berkeley is a pretty place and you can look right into San Francisco. At Stanford you can tell that everyone around there that is in school or works there are impressive people."
I'll be happy to eat crow if he's a Vol, but I just don't see it.
-Rivals: Crane on his finalistsNorthwestern: "I really like the coaching staff, and Coach Fitz (head coach Pat Fitzgerald) is such an impressive guy. I also really liked Coach Mac (recruiter Matt MacPherson) and Coach Springer (wide receivers coach Dennis Springer)."
Cal: "They're another good educational school, one of the best public schools in the country. And it's a pretty place -- I really liked the campus."
Kansas: "That was the first school I visited and I really liked it a lot. I fit in well with the campus, and I really get along well with the receivers coach (David Beaty)."
Stanford: "The biggest thing about Stanford is that everyone at the school…is aspiring to be successful. It's a great atmosphere for sports and academics. I was there for junior day, and they had professors speak. They were all impressive people."
Tennessee: "It's such a good football school. You don't get any better than the SEC football-wise. The facilities are great, and you can just see that they are a football powerhouse."
-More from Crane on Rivals"Stanford runs a pro offense, but they throw it a bunch. Northwestern likes to throw it around, that's for sure. Tennessee like to throw it deep, and that's what I think is one of my strengths, getting vertical.
"After we went to Northwestern my dad said we should see the next three schools and then narrow it down," Crane said. "We talked about coming home and talking about everything as a family. I think we will be close to making a decision."
Crane has 16 offers and has made enough visits to schools he knows what he is looking for when picking a college. At the top of the list is receiving a good education.
"Academics are really important," he said. "It doesn't have to be an Ivy League school but I want a school with strong academics. After that I will look at how I fit in and how well I get along with the coaches. I will look at the atmosphere and do I fit in the with offense."
