He definitely was until we knew he wouldn't qualify here. I think we still are in good shape for his teammate though. I have to wonder what these kids think when they have to go to ucf because of grades when sec offers were on table. Must be kicking themselves.

I feel good about last years DL class as well, we just need about 7-8 more in THIS class. Everytime we "pass" on one or ask them to wait while we hope to land a bigger target...puts us 1 step closer to coming up short again.

We didn't have a choice but to pass on him. Commits don't look as good when they can't get in school.

The problem with kids with grade issues, is typically the same problem with all other kids with grade issues that don't play sports, their priorities aren't correct. It sucks that's the case, but in today's society, it's becoming the norm.

I did mention Corey Smith earlier as well. We didn't pass on him. Maybe 2 years from now when he can get into school we will be able to use him on the DL.

Because he wont count against this years final total. We will just enroll him in juco. Pearson would take a miracle to qualify for an sec school but could play at a ucf. Smith couldn't play for either so will go to juco first.

In Smith's case, we are playing with the house's money. If he doesn't make through JUCO, nothing lost. If he makes it through but doesn't live up to the hype, nothing lost, pull the scholarship. If he makes it through and looks to be as good as advertised, we sign him. It's that simple. Nothing to lose and we can't get hurt.

Are the admission standards really that much different between Tennessee and UCF? I am asking as I honestly have no idea. Does UCF only require that you can read and write or is that also up for debate? It does seem odd that everyone is in the know that the kid can not qualify for Tennessee but can at UCF before his senior year has even started.

Yes its common knowledge just like when very highly rated kids like devine settle for west Virginia

We got to get 2 of following: obrien, day, pipkins. Then we take borne and I'm pretty sure we'll get a juco

Unless it's a true difference maker in JUCO, I don't think that Dooley wants to go that route if he can help it. Just as many issues getting kids to qualify for SEC schools from the JUCO ranks, as there is taking kids with major grade issues in high school.

I've been told dooley will get at least one juco dt and more than likely will every year.

Unless he has a ton of attrition, which is something he obviously wants to avoid, JUCO will be picked less and less, unless it's a kid we sign and place. That extra math class can make or break a signing class, if you not careful.

The obvious answer here is the staff likes Smith's ability enough to ride through the juco process with. Pearson, not so much.

He didn't have a committable offer. That's pretty simple to see.

Right, he didn't have a commitable offer at this time. That may have changed over time, but with all the restrictions on signing classes now, and limited numbers this year for our class, signing a kid with grade issues, unless he truly is a top talent, isn't going to happen. Corey Smith is a top talent, that's for sure.

Agreed. But I'm sure dooley will do his homework. When you are as thin as we were at dt then you must get a juco for at least next two years. Saban encountered same problem at bama and has done just that.

Unless it's a top talent and difference maker, I think he would rather sign a HS guy, just because they will have longer to groom him as time goes on.

That's a given. You usually have 3 difference making dts in juco each year.

To those wondering/worrying you have to ask yourself why UCF? Ask that before jumping to any conclusions about our staff. The answer is pretty obvious.

Henderson, I made those statements before I knew he had qualifying issues, had we not backed off, like everyone else did, he would have committed here already.

Perhaps you should have proclaimed it a little quieter and not so strongly.
