alright im going to go on a limb here bc i am bored and want to DEBATE. Although PSU had a weak schedule as I thought the WHOLE BIG TEN did, including them 2 schools i cant quite think of their names right now. But PSU has a VERY NASTY defense. I think it'll be like most of the games they played this year, close early and then i think our offense is just too much for them to handle in the 2cd half. We win by at least 2 td.

I agree. They have a good defense. The big 10 does play a weak schedule, and the SEC usually doesn very well against the Big 10 in bowl games. 2 TD's sounds about right.

lol. whats your saying is spot on, cant disagree with you.

My biggest concern is Fulmer's 2-4 post season record of late. He's been outcoached in several bowl games of late.

ah, we're forgetting that UT only at best plays to the level of their competition. 24-21 UT

We're also forgetting that our Defensive front is thinner than Paris Hilton and hasn't really slowed anybody down on the ground since October.

this was the answer i was originally looking for! Although we are thin, i believe our speed is too much for them, our LB's should be able to run with their "power backs" The big ten is not exactly known for its speed.

Are you planning on getting on the field to play PSU on Jan. 1? I never have bought into the arguement that fans taking a game lightly means the team will.

What do you think the polls are all wrong and PSU should be a top 15 team? They haven't beat anyone of note and the polls reflect that.

You can build this game up all you want, but UT has nothing to gain by beating PSU. If they win, everyone expects it. If they lose, UT most likely wont even finish the season ranked.

So a team that didn't go to a bowl game AT ALL last year has nothing to gain by beating the team that went 11-1, ended up ranked 3rd, and won a BCS bowl game a year ago?

Ummmmmm yes it is. The Big 10 has the same speed as the SEC.

We played Air Force on Sep 9. I'd say that we haven't really slowed anybody down on the ground all year.

First of all, welcome to you and all of the Penn St fans. :hi:

There are a few around here who are convinced that the sky is falling. There would be alot to gain if we could manage to beat Penn St. For one, it would make up for the spankings you guys have laid on us the last two times our teams have met. :cray:

I think a win over Penn St and JoePa would be huge. It would help make sure all these verbal commits come here and maybe line up a few more. and hopefully give us confidence going into '07. of course the bowl victory over A&M gave me more confidence than i could contain and we saw what happened with that.

I'd debate that slightly. I think the SKILL guys in the Big 10 are as fast as the fastest guys in the SEC, but I think there is still a little bit of a speed gap with some of the bigger guys.

Not at LB or DE, really. Mayyyyyyyybe on the OL and mayyyyyyyybe in DTs, but really, mayyyyyyyyybe only the OL.

Maybe so . . . The speed gap is definitely nowhere near what it was just a few years ago.

I remember just 5 years ago my jaw dropping as I watched Jason Witten catch a ball going down the seam and run away from a Michigan safety. Granted, Witten was not your average TE, but he flat out left the guy.

Very very true. It's just hard to say a conference doesn't have speed when one school in that conf. is termed "Linebacker U", has produced a Heisman RB, then produced another 1st round pick in Biakabutuka, and produced Larry Johnson.

Plus, AJ Hawk, Abdul Hodge, Chad Greenway, Bobby Carpenter, Tamba Hali, et al were and are pretty fast.

As I recall, Tamba Hali's draft status was in question because he is slow. I could be remembering that incorrectly. Come to think of it, I think Bill Parcells mentioned that Bobby Carpenter is a little slow for the Cowboys defense.Anyway, as for the conference speed difference, the SEC is definitely known for its speed. I've heard that from a number of announcers. I don't think any conference can really claim to be faster or is better known for its fast athletes. However, I don't think the Big 10 is full of slowpokes. They are very close to the same speed if not equal. Watch the Notre Dame-Ohio State game from last year and you will see how fast the Buckeyes are.

Exactly my point. Right on, buddy. :)

IMO year end year out, the Big 10 is one of the most overrated conferences and is usually a disappointment come Bowl time.

Suprised there is so much love in here on a UT board for that conference.

Bowl games don't mean anything for team speed. That's dumb.

Yeah and Texas won the NC last year and now they are playing 6-6 Iowa in the Alamo Bowl.

Doesnt change the fact that PSU has beaten one team with a winning record this year. They aren't very impressive so far, and if you dont want to believe me go look at where PSU ranks in the polls.
