Severe Weather Thread

Huh. Record tornadoes, record hurricanes a couple of years ago, largest beetle kill in recorded history in the Rockies due to warmer than usual winters, record droughts in the SE just a few years ago, expansion of several arthropod species into new more northerly areas, record winter snow falls and summer highs in the NE... Huh.

Weather is cyclic

It took a long time for the global warming apocalyptics to chime in up in here.

I must not know what the word "record" means.

Could you explain the cycle we are in, for me?

Interglacial period is what I would say

Data on the Greenland Ice shelf has spikes in Temps at 10,000 B.C. and decline in temps at 6,000 B.C.

It must been all those fossil fuels

Though, we are probably not helping the situation, but weather and climate has always been cyclic

Ice Age here, Ice Age there. The Northern parts of North America, all the way south into Iowa was once a huge Glazier

Leftist Green propoganda is getting old.

But thats another thread

You said weather is cyclical, and now you invoke climate. Sort of gets to what I was driving at in the first place, doesn't it?

So you think the argument is only fossil fuels cause warming? This is a straw man that is used time and time again. No one is claiming that fossil fuels are the only driver of climate for all of geologic history, or even now.

And you think that climate scientists aren't using all this information you are referring to, to inform their opinion on the modern situation?

It isn't propaganda, my friend. It's what the evidence is pointing to. Climate has changed throughout time, for all sorts of reasons. Climate is changing differently and for a different reason now.

I'm not going to turn this into another GCC thread. I shouldn't have even commented on it. It's just strange to me how folks can dismiss anything and everything as not related to climate change. It makes me wonder what they think climate change would look like.

This would be the first time you posted an observation without an agenda.

No, please. Find where I ever predicted or claimed there was an impending climate apocalypse. This would be very important for me to know, because it would mean my account has been hacked.

The thought that man is to solely blame for GW is what irks me. People marketing fear to make a profit is the only problem I have.

Now back to the thread at hand

EMA in West Tennessee just put out a special alert asking people to get a emergency preparedness plan together. LE, Fire, EMS are preparing for the worse.

Tornado Watch just issued until 10:00pm CST

I have a HUGE problem with that, and you'll find that I have criticized Al Gore as a snake at every opportunity. Climate change is complex, but the main contributor is the success of us as a species through various interactions with the environment. That isn't a moral judgement against humanity or success, it just it what it is. And frankly, climate change will affect us in only mild and inconveniencing ways here in the North America (although it will change things pretty significantly in our natural areas in some cases). It's just an acknowledgement of these changes and forming a plan to deal with them/mitigate that I care about. Africa is going to/is getting drop-kicked, because they were very populated doing unsustainable things in marginal areas to begin with, for example. Life for people west of the Andes is going to be very different in not 100 years, but more like 20 years and even starting now. It's real.

I'm not saying we should be ashamed of anything. I'm just saying we need to operate under all the information we have, not ignore it.

Al Gore and his ilk have done more to damage the cause of GCC than any oil company, imo.

Yeah, take it somewhere else. I'd rather know the important things, like the chances we get hit by tornadoes in the next 3-4 hours.

Well guys let's hunker down and all get through this. Hi Count any idea how specifically Tipton County/Brighton will be hit?

I didn't say you predicted a climate apocalypse. If your intentions are only to have a legit weather discussion then it's all good. You said you knew better than to bring that discussion in here. I'm certainly not the Thread Police so...carry on.

For my family and friends' sake I hope so, but I hope the people in Dyer county stay safe

I'm with you. I selfishly hope that crap stays north but wish the best for everyone in the path. I paid my debt to the weather gods back in 1999. Twister laid a 3 ft diameter oak tree on my Eclipse.
