Agreed. Like I state earlier in the thread, Randolph will see the field more than any other incoming DB, besides the JUCO DBs (Moore and Lanier). That is JMO. I know Coleman received much praise during Spring Practice and I think he will be a contributor next year, but I like Randolph's skill set much better. I just feel he is the better player. Also I believe we aren't as deep at safety as we are at cornerback. So that should help Randolph see the field early and often.
I was very impressed with Coleman. Hes already a better player then Eric Gordon IMO. Safety may have depth if Loften makes it in and Janzen stays on the team. If Randolph is better than Coleman our secondary will be in good shape for a while.

Don't let the folks here you say that someone is better than Gordon. He fizzled out with me last season. I can see him transferring after this year. Just better players coming in. IMO

I think our secondary is in good shape for awhile regardless. Janzen will make it back. I'm very confident of that. Not so confident about Loften.
I think this incoming freshmen DB haul and the incoming JUCO DB haul is one the most deep and talented in the country. They will vastly improve our secondary because of all the quality depth they will provide (something that was non-existent last year).
In a perfect world. J.J. and Brewer at the FS and SS spots. Randolph coming off the bench for some depth as well as PWagg and even Moore in some situations.
Moore and Teague/PWagg at the CB spots. I haven't decided yet between the 2nd CB spot. Both have strengths and weaknesses in their game. I love Waggs big-play ability, but it hurts to see him whiff so much on tackles. Can't stand that. I feel like Teague will be very improved this year. He looked impressive in the one Spring Practice I watched. Then at the 3rd CB/Nickel Back either the loser between the 2nd CB battle and Lanier. Coleman, Lanier, and Gordon will all get some time.
The only incoming DBs that I don't think will get serious PT would be Martin and Orta. I could be proven wrong though. It is just we are getting pretty strong depth wise and not all the freshmen DBs can play. I always viewed Orta and to a lesser degree Martin as recruits that would take a little longer to get used to the college game.
Gordon won't get any time when the others get here. Coleman, Teague, Waggner, and even Art Evans all had better springs. Moore, Lanier, and Randolph will take all of his time. This staff will put our best DBs on the field. Gordon won't be one of them. I expect him to open up one of the schollie spots after the season. I also think Coleman will be the nickel at the least.

Me either. And they won't. Moore will start, but I don't see Lanier beating out Teague or even PWagg for that matter. It is likely he can beat out Gordon and Evans, but I'm not seeing the others.

I don't know that it's even all that likely. He's got a year of experience starting in JUCO. They've been starters in the SEC. Auburn basically passed on him this year so I'm not sure it's a foregone conclusion he's worlds better than some of these guys we have.

Chavis nice hyperbole.
Go ahead and believe Lanier will not start. We can revisit this in 6 months. I will admit if I was wrong. You will pretend you weren't.

Bottom line is this:
- Lanier, Coleman, Teague, Evans, Gordon, and Waggner will all be fighting for the 4th starting spot in the secondary and the nickel position (assuming Jackson returns, Brewer continues to improve, and Moore is as good as his film has led us to believe he is).
- Best case scenario: someone emerges from that group as a stud and is on the level of our other three starters. Result: secondary is immediately much improved.
- Worst case scenario: Coleman and Lanier aren't any better than the guys we had last year and none of those 6 is ever on the level of the first 3 guys. Result: we've added some solid depth and experience to last year's secondary; improvements on the DL also help out the secondary.
- Most likely scenario: the competition between those 6 players is extremely intense and they all make each other better as they fight for playing time. Result: our 4th and 5th DBs might be a little weak at the beginning of the season, but by mid-season we've found a solid rotation and the secondary gels together well.
