(8) Pacers vs. (1) Bulls

It's pitiful that Indiana fans allowed their arena to be infiltrated. Sounds like the United Center in there

I'll never understand sportswriters. Rose is averaging 29 ppg. That's incredible. He's also shooting 35% (17% from 3 pt), while his assists are down (6.3 apg) and his turnovers are up (4.3 topg). Everyone on the team taking more than 4 FGA's per game in the playoffs is outshooting him*! Pass the freaking ball. You are missing 14.2 shots per game! They would have swept with a good pass-first guard.

Here go the ESPN 'tards claiming his playoff performance has solidified his MVP campaign.

2011 NBA Playoffs: Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau expects Derrick Rose to play Tuesday - ESPN Chicago

*Not too different from the regular season, though. Everyone taking at least 4 FGA's per game outshot him except for CJ Watson.

Wasn't there a young Chicago Bulls guard in the mid and late '80s who led the league in field goal attempts?

Rose is the MVP; he will only get better as he includes his teammates more. However, D. Rose should always be looking to shoot first.

Yes, there was. But in the late '80s his lowest FG% was .526 (well above league average) while Rose shot .445 this year.

Why shoot first when you can pass it to guys who shoot better than you? Deron Williams knew all about this. Rose took 3 of D-Will's most productive players and added them to a roster with Noah, Deng, and Gibson and only won 9 more games. Think what y'all could do with an efficient pass-first guard.

2010 with Williams:
Korver = 7.2 ppg at .493
Brewer = 9.5 ppg at .495
Boozer = 19.5 at .562

2011 with Rose:
Korver = 8.3 ppg at .434
Brewer = 6.2 ppg at .480
Boozer = 17.5 ppg at .510

In his third season, Jordan only shot 48% from the field. In the mid and late 90s (the end of Jordan's tenure with the Bulls), Jordan's FG% was 49%, 48%, and 46%
You obviously aren't seeing him miss 65% of his shots. Failing 65% of the time is good in baseball.

Kobe is only shooting 41% from the field in the playoffs.

Kobe is overrated, too.

48% is actually a very good FG% for a guard*. 46% is still good and above league average when you factor in 3's. 44% is not.

48% is the league average from 2 pt range. Jordan shot 3 pointers too, so his efficiency was still high.

As you can see, there isn't much difference for Rose between winning and losing, other than FG% and turnovers:

Right now he's shooting poorly and turning the ball over and you say they would have been swept without him?

There isn't a doubt in my mind they would have lost every game to the Pacers without Rose.

Did you read that chart?

Looks to me like the material differences are his three-point percentage and his free throw percentage.

Rose is very good, don't get me wrong, but he's been terrible in the playoffs. There are better PG's, but even an average PG with average performances would have led to the Bulls sweeping the Pacers. Rose is a very good PG who is playing HORRIBLY right now.

This FG% in a vacuum silliness is why pointy headed academics should stay away from sports.

He's not playing up to expectations, but I wouldn't say he's been horrible. Games 1 & 2 were very good.

Yes, you also forgot turnovers.

True shooting % is what really matters, and it factors in your 2 pt %, 3 pt % and FT %*. Rose is 14th in the league among PG's in true shooting % with .550, but he shot .562 in wins, and .519 in losses (and he shoots more in losses). As you can see there is a significant difference there.

He's shooting .508 in the playoffs, and you wonder why the Bulls look ugly.

*Points / (2 * (FGA + 0.44 * FTA))
