'12 LA DT Gerron Borne

Love to establish some sort of presence in Louisianna. Janzen and Waggner are a good start, but if we can grab Borne, who plays a position of need, away from the tigers it would be a good deal IMO

I think LSU would have to offer or at least show some interest to say that. Unless you meant the Memphis Tigers.

Is this a guy we take right away? I would have though O'Brien would be the first we take regardless, and after that we would wait and pick.choose between the likes of Taylor, Mann, Borne and some others.

If UT is in a position to "choose" between Taylor and Mann at any point in the next year something crazy will have happened.

I did not mean between those two, I meant between perhaps one of them and Borne. Williams would be another name I would throw out there.

In terms of taking him away from the tigers you are correct, it would be better for us if they offered him and then we took him. Just having LS kids on campus makes inroads in the state for us though. Coach Joseph will really help in that regard IMO

LA

They won't offer him, ever.

UT leads big here. Holds offers from UT, Memphis, Illinois, and Pittsburgh. Says he will visit UT this summer and hopes to make his decision this summer. Coincidence? Probably not.

I like how this kid is straightforward and doesn't beat around the bush. I'm still worried about the Bayou Bengals, but if they continue to drag their feet, then Borne could be a Vol much sooner than later.

I'm pretty sure LSU has shown no interest in Borne

“I love everything about Tennessee,” Borne said. “It’s a good town and it’s a very good school too. The program is rebuilding and coach Derek Dooley is working with a very young roster. I can see that program getting to the next level though.”

So how is Borne going to choose a school? “I want to go to a nice town and where I feel right at home,” he said. “I want to have a good relationship with the coaches and players.”
- Scout

Borne says he favors Tennessee over Alabama right now but Alabama hasnt offered yet, from the way the article is written sounds like if Bama was to offer they would move in front. He says he will attend Alabamas camp & he wants to visit Clemson & Florida. Also Borne said he will make a decision before his seasons starts & he will still take all 5 of his OV's.

"Gerron Borne is moving closer to being a Vol. Borne was scheduled to visit next weekend, but as I said last month he can't due to prom."

It's just a matter of time before Borne is a Vol. He has great size but he will be a project just like Saulsberry & Carson. Dooley & LT need to land us atleast 2 stud DT's in this class.

you saying 2 studs + Borne project?

O'brien and ?

Yes, we need 2 guys that can come in next year & give some good PT & be productive. I want O'Brien & Taylor, I would love to have Shanks from Prattville but he will be a hard pull out of that state although he loved his visit here.

So you don't think Carson and Saulsberry will be able to help in their second year. Hell we had Ayers in there playing, I think Thompson will have those two guys up to speed. Plus Couch and Walls. Also Hughes if he's still around(I think he'll be alright for us this year). We'll get some good DTs don't worry.

I dont expect much from either. Our DT rotation isnt very pretty right now:

Jackson - A converted DE that is underweight for a DT
Couch - Should be a DT for us
Walls - Being converted to a DE
Hughes - Doesnt bring it, lazy!
Ayers - Effort is there, just not talented enough
Carson - overweight, will probably need a RS year. Still wont expect much
Saulsberry - Gaining weight to be a DT, will be decent for us.

We need to land 2-3 Elite big time DT's to be able to get back to the 10 win mark. Defensive pressure from upfront can make ALOT of difference.

You're missing hood on that list.

Does his "a little closer" comment mean his offer is not yet commitable but if things fall right it will be? His offer list and his desire to be a vol leads me to believe the staff can be patient, but im just guessing.

Jackson is an All-SEC DT. Who cares if he's undersized.

you forgot Hood who is looking really good and Miller who is playing more DT than DE now.

Hughes has brought it the past 2 weeks.

Clark, Jeffery, Sykes, and Fowlkes are on the back end of the rotation.

Borne will be a Vol. I also think we get O'Brien. Those are two right there that would go a long way towards our DT needs. Like JMo I think we need to land one or two more and that would be icing on the cake. Taylor would be huge. I think we can continue to work him, the fact that our foot's in the door as much as it is is encouraging. Another one to keep an eye on is Vincent Valentine from Illi. From what I remember, LT was doing work there not too long ago and I think we could have a pretty good shot. O'Brien, Valentine, Borne, would be a pretty solid DT class and think we can get another. O'Brien, Valentine, Taylor, and Borne would seal the deal.

Carson may or may not be redshirted but by the time these '12 DTs get here I think Carson and Saulsberry will be good enough to be in the rotation. Couch, Jackson, Hughes, and Miller will be decent at DT at worst. Saulsberry will end up as a good DT for us when it's all said and done.

JMo you're selling these recruits short for what reason I have no idea. This staff evaluates talent very well. Couch, Harris, Coleman, Johnson, Maggitt, Randolph, Lanier, J.Williams and of course Byron Moore will all see a lot of time this fall. Depending on how Carson and Saulsberry play this fall they'll be in the rotation.
