I don't know why a list got leaked, but it could be for this very reason. We just found out that Wright is not interested. What we avoided was having to ask the University for permission, then having Jay wright come out in the national media and state that he has no interest in the UT job. Kind of a silly game, but it may just be a way to assess interest. Sorta like asking a girl if her friend is interested in you before you ask her out and risk rejection.

I see the search firm is already at work.... so as a university we can deny contact and just say it was a rumor

There's not a chance on earth that all of these 'rejections' are real (current BB and FB last year). You said yourself that the Knoxville media is pathetic - why should we believe that they are spot-on when it comes to this subject?

We have no idea who's on the list to call, much less in any real discussions. We probably won't ever know. I'd be willing to bet that the number of rumored rejections will outnumber the total number of coaches who are actually seriously considered by a wide margin.
