Lawrence Frank - Boston Celtics Assistant

It was our third game in as many days and UK was #1 in the country. What was Bama's excuse for losing to UF in the regular season and then getting absolutely annihilated by UK in the SEC tourney?
Lame excuse. A LOT of teams have won more than 3 games in 3 days to win their conference tourney, and while logging far more minutes per player than UT. See Ga a few years back and U Con this year if you need reminders.

Hubbs on Lawrence Frank.

I think the best way to say it is that early on Frank has expressed some interest in learning about the job.

If he can't get out of his deal then I don't think that Tennessee would wait till June.

I'm not confident in saying how relistic it might actually be.

How many times have you seen it done against a team that has 5 first round draft picks?

June will end up being the deal breaker imo.

It just seems like to me that either 1) Tennessee knows on the front end that it's going to be June and has a plan to make it work; or 2) Frank knows that he can't wait till June and will come on and take the job.

Frank is a hard option to pass up, but it will be nearly impossible to wait until June to make it happen. Either way, I'm still saying it would be a bad move for a man who is the lead assistant for a team capable of winning a world championship.

Basically, we want the Celtics to get beat down early in the playoffs. :p:eek:lol:

The man has the coaching background, but does anyone know how good of a recruiter he was at the college level? I know he has the NBA experience to sell, but how good was he at recruiting before that?

I believe he was instrumental in getting Tony Harris out of Memphis.

Was he not on staff when we brought in Yarbrough, Victor and Harris? That was a haul of talent. C.J Black was in that time frame as well, but I was just a lad at the time.

Cool, thx. I much prefer the idea that he could recruit before and now has more to sell than the idea his NBA experience is his only selling point. A good salesman is a good salesman. A lousy salesman can't always get you to buy a top notch product.

Frank is thought by most as NOT the front runner to replace Doc Rivers because the uncle of that crappy QB we once had is said to prefer a coach who played in the league before.

He is extremely well respected by his peers. He's an excellent, excellent tactician. He coached the NJ Nets for 6 and a half years; that in and of itself says something. He coached here with O'Neill, so he knows the college game, and his NBA experience would enable him to really recruit well, imo.

On the cussing thing, let's just be realistic, we're not going to get a coach that doesn't cuss, so it's not an issue.

I see nothing here that leads me to believe that he could recruit. I'm seeing Don DeVoe in the later years with Frank. He doesn't look particularly impressive, doesn't have a staff, doesn't have a network of high school coaches that he knows and has been working with for several years. X's and O's and knowing the college game will absolutely not get it done imo.

I think this would be an awful hire unless he is somehow a tremendous recruiter with a dynamic personality and nothing listed above leads me to that conclusion.

I think assistant coaches in the NBA are often guys that couldn't make it as head coaches in the college ranks primarily because their personalities aren't strong enough to pull it off. I have never met Frank and he may be an exception but I would be very, very leery of anyone plucked from an assistant position in the NBA.

By appearance alone he looks more like a Mike Hamilton than a Bruce Pearl or Calipari or Patino and that doesn't bode well for recruiting success again imo.

He helped stacked Jerry Green's teams so I'm sure he can recruit

He was an assistant. Thats like saying all of the assistants under roy williams are good recruiters. My biggest problem with this candidate is he hasnt been the man on a college level. In my opinion there are no less questions with frank as compared to shaka smart. Either may wind up here and turn out to be excellent hires but just not slam dunks that many on here make it out to be.
