Now that I looked over the case... it is a completely different situation. Pearl had Craft over for a couple burgers, Illinois was buying players cars and housing.

Look, the reality is ugly when it comes to college basketball. Football is rough, but not nearly as bad as football. Obviously it's Pearl's fault for lying but Maze makes a good point.

“I've been offered money, guys I know have taken it. To me, phone calls are all small,” Maze said. “And we have to be honest; you might catch (anyone) at a bad time and back them into a lie. At least he (Pearl) admitted it. A crime is a crime but taking a Snickers bar ain’t like robbing a bank.”

The reason I think this is because it was a minor violation. If it was a major violation like paying players I WOULD AGREE WITH YOU. I think he realized that trying to sweep it under the rug to the ncaa just made it much more trouble.

yet what he turned over was not "credible, persuasive and of a kind on which reasonably prudent persons rely in the conduct of serious affairs." If he was turned in by OSU or someone like that then he should have been watching more carefully. Either that or just tell the truth and none of this happens

Good grief people. I like Pearl but he lied to the NCAA. If he would just have told the truth it would have been a secondary violation, and none of this would be have happened.

Pearl did make his own bed. The only thing I am trying to say is that if Craft did bring the barbecue situation to light then it was a petty move. If he didn't then this argument is moot. My argument has nothing to do with the talks between Pearl and the NCAA.

This is what the NCAA says and what amazes me. I guess a taped confession of "yes, i was given money and an SUV to sign with Ill" could never be considered credible proof. This is what cranks my case. Same thing with Tim Floyd. Both cleared but mysteriously left their job with a clean bill of health form NCAA.

I agree with Bobby on this,I was at the game in St. Louis when we defeated Ohio State.I figure this is some "crafted" revenge on a coach that had the audacity to put a program like OSU out of the dance.....

Maze didn't say anything bad at all. There are a lot if 'sickening' things in the world, but a player defending a coach is not one of them.

This. Most here are so disconnected from the players on the field/court. They have no clue about their reality.

Most people panic when approached by a cop when they have committed an offense. They either lie or tell a half truth. But the cop already has a photo of the person committing the offense. The cop in Pearl's case was the NCAA. Yes he is guilty, but came clean.

It tells a lot on post like this. Maze defends his coach who has helped him and it's "sickening." Kevin Ware posting his opposition and its " we didn't need him." Jones wants Bruce to stay and "see ya -you're not wanted here anyway." Harris says he may go pro-" good riddance.". Hopson weighs his options and " what a worthless jerk." And these idiotic friends who support Pearl are too stupid to be Basketball fans and need to just stay home because "we don't need them either."

You are right....no one but Pearl did this and he alone is to blame. But I can't blame a player or former player for standing up for their coach. It is an emotional time for them. This should have never happened period.
