I'll admit that I'm a casul UT BB fan at best and am primarily a FB guy, so I don't know all of the details. But it sure seems to me that the NCAA is highly, highly likely to essentially suspend BP for 1-2 or more seasons for blatantly and admittedly lying to them. Now, I love what BP has done for the UT BB program and wish he could stay, but for the life of me, I can't understand how anyone is surprised by UT firing him or mad about it. If BP can't coach for a year or two, how on earth could you keep him as coach? Now, I know that's not a given, but assume that people in the UTAD have some pretty good indications from the NCAA what's going to happen.

Am I missing something here guys?

It's like our football program, we imploded and will have to start over just like Dooley is doing. Hopefully we won't hire another kiffin. Let's be realistic here.

Yes, Bruce Pearl wasn't the best X and O coach.. Hell he wasn't even a good person. But he brought the ENERGY. THE ATTENTION. THE RECRUITS.

In this situation, we have to do EVERYTHING.. to keep him. EVERYTHING. We are setting ourselves back so many years. If we would have got the ban hammer from the NCAA so be it. IT's worth it to do everything to keep Pearl.

Yes. The old guy's the people who've been around the block before Pearl will come in and disagree... Call me a Pearl fan, but im a Vol fan above all.. and this is a sad sad sad day.

You do realize Pearl lost to Michigan by 30 just on Friday and we lost to Kentucky by damn near 30 in the SEC Tournament last year....

Pearl left this program 100 times better than Buzz left it....They will find a good coach and it will be okay...

Best case - Hamilton (if indeed he stays after all this) makes a great hire and the Vols don't miss a beat. Worst case - we go through another three or four mediocre coaching staffs, sinking back into the embarrassing mess we were in before Pearl came to UT. Another thing to think about is - will the NCAA still drop the hammer down hard on UT now that Pearl is gone? I'm thinking it's about 50/50 the fine people at the NCAA will do all they can to hurt UT's BB program, Pearl or no Pearl. Just my personal hunch on that, of course.

We were screwed either way. Keep Pearl and we get hammered hard plus he would've gotten at least one and maybe 2 years suspension.

As it is, we still receive sanctions and have to try and lure a decent coach who can also recruit and build from scratch.

Yeah, this program is going back to the dark ages for the foreseeable future

But aren't we less screwed this way? I don't see how you can retain a coach who then is suspended for 1-2 years. What kind of coach could you get to keep the seat warm for two years?

I agree that there's likely some trouble ahead, but think it was caused by BP misleading the NCAA. There's noone to blame but him, imo. I still like him and applaud what he's done for UT BB, but think this was all a forgone conclusion when that meeting where he mislead the NCAA ended. All Hamilton or anyone else can do about it is to move on and do the best they can to hire another good coach, imo.

Pearl was going to be suspended next year anyway. If Pearl not being there is the deciding factor for both of them, then they were leaving regardless.

As hard as it is for you to understand to stay on topic. I never said they were "relevant" or that they weren't a basketball school, that's an invention of yours; YOU indicated the stadium is empty on Saturdays and you're dead wrong. They sell the place out.

But again...keep acting like you know what you're talking about.

Well.. I admit my thread "Basketball is done." Was stupid as hell. I've had time to cool down.. But this thread takes the cake.
