Stop all the arguing; just answer two questions

He took a calculated risk. Accept a secondary violation and get a slap on the wrist, or lie, have your assts lie, and ask a recruit and his father to lie and hope the NCAA can't prove anything, knowing if they can, it now becomes a major violation. My math says that was bad arithmetic on CBP's part. Does someone who takes such a pointless risk deserve to keep his employment? If you believe so, then we'll just have to agree to disagree. And for the record, he only came clean when he knew he was caught. He didn't do it because it was the right thing to do. That does make a difference, whether you want it to or not. As for the everyone lies arguement, you're right. But not since childhood have I told a lie that would get others in trouble. I take responsibility for my actions and face the piper when I get caught, but I never drag others down with me. Pearl hurt the entire university with one, poorly thought out lie. If he had integrity, he would end all of this and fall on his sword by tendering his resignation. He should not take the program down with him.

Not at all... just noticed your boy's avatar and all the "morality" talk didn't seem to fit together. I easily could be wrong....defend it ....if you like.:birgits_giggle:

It's who I was named after. Just because I share a name with him doesn't mean I share bad habits.
Boom, there it is. Guess you're wrong but what the hell, everybody makes mistakes.

Just read though the thread. Saw mention of Tressel several times. If you think Tressel's punishment will have any bearing on Pearl's punishment, or vice versa, you are mistaken. Making that assumption means assuming the NCAA is fair. It's not. The NCAA has far too much discretion when it comes to meting out punishments. Punishments for specific violations should be spelled out and maintained across the board, but it's not going to happen. The powers that be in the NCAA enjoy the position they sit in way too much. They like being the gods of college athletics.

Forgot to add I firmly believe Tressel should face at least a season ban, as Pearl is facing, but I don't believe it will happen. As far as his employment, that's OSU's decision to make as Pearl is UT's decision to make. If they want to take the black eye, it's their decision.

Tressel deserves worse than whatever Pearl gets

Agreed, but what he deserves and what he gets are two different things. The NCAA has no consistency when it comes to handing out punishments. Some programs and coaches are allowed far more latitude than others. IMO, the NCAA is a joke.
