I post very little but read this daily. They are entertaining to say the least. I am a UT alum and bleed orange so here is my biased opinion. I don't care about any other school, just TN. Fulmer should have been gone three years before he was, Pearl did great things for BB but blew himself up. Hamilton makes Doug Dickey look like a people person. I grew up with Ray Mears teams and actually had the pleasure of knowing him personally in later years. TN can be as great in any sport if they choose to do so. Anyone who thinks we can't hire a great BB coach is insane. We might not, as in Buzz, and Wade, but we can. I support Pearl while he is here but whoever is the coach I will support. By the way, I appreciate the insight from hatvol since he is obviously more connected than I. I am just TN through and through.

You oldtimer UT fan's don't make a lot of sense to me. You state you love the university and how we CAN potentially make a great hire, but that's like saying I CAN win a nobel peace prize. It could happen, but realistically it's just not. The only person that compares to Pearl in Tennessee basketball history is Mears. The amount of horrible hires taken place in the basketball program is to put it nicely upsetting. Like I've said before...yes...pearl messed up, but unless you have an absolute stud coming in I think it would be absolutely devastating for our athletic program. Sorry for going off on you beamerman, but that whole "we'll get 'em next year" mentality just infuriates me.

Maybe because the old people have seen Tennessee win when pearl wasn't the coach.

Yeah, the "our program is so pathetic that a lying, snitching charlatain is our hope" mentaility is so much better.

Look hatvol, I believe Pearl should be fired. The real frustration is just with the uncertainty that comes with hiring a new coach. Knowing every year we'd make the tournament was comforting (especially with the tough times of the football program) and perhaps Pearl spoiled us, but is it so wrong to want to take a step forward instead of two steps back. I know someone's got to get fired, it's just frustrating to know that the person (despite showing a lack of integrity) was the one beacon of light for the past years. With that being said here's to not only hiring a stud coach but also a coach who doesn't lose himself if he ever encounters a similar rise to fame as CBP.

Actually, were were a respectable program during Don Devoe (until the shot clock was put in). Don't forget that even Jerry Green was winning over twenty games a season. To think that Mears was a Moses and Pearl is an Aaron is ridiculous, IMO.

Why do people always look at possible failure after having success as being the reason not to get rid of someone?? We have a right at a 43% success rate of making the dance the past 44 years. There are schools that would kill for that rate. Some schools might make it 3 times a decade or less. We had a good run with Pearl, and with his help we have better facilities and and more recognizable national brand. That will undoubtedly help the next coach that comes here.

I'm certainly not looking forward to starting the BB program over any more than anyone else...AGAIN...But, I don't think we can repair the damage that CBP has done at UT until we send him on his way. I appreciate what he did for the VOLS and so much of it was positive, but because of his own poor decisions for which he has accepted accountability, IMO he must go - and I hope Hammy drives the limo for him on a one-way trip out of town. Let's just get all of this over with at one time.

Just for the record O'neil was a good hire but he left because the AD department didn't do anything to help the basketball team. The first years were brutal because of our over all lack of talent. It took him 3 years to recruit talent. If he would have stayed I have no doubt we would have seen simular success as Pearl. Proof Jerry Green era. So getting a good basketball coach here has been done but that doesn't nean a thing know with the sanctions looming over our heads.

It's a hell of a lot easier to turn around a basketball program in 2 years or less than it is a football program. Wait and see.

I will take the oldtimer fan quote as a compliment since I have seen Ray Mears and Wade the Fade basketball. Bruce Pearl did not invent TN basketball. He did bring it to great heights before he became bigger than the school. It is basketball and we should be proud of our school and team and should learn to be honorable. If not, we are no better than Bama football, Auburn football and Ohio State. I for one would be embarrassed if we fell to those levels of cheating. That may be old school but I will go there.
