He's just pissed that not one single member of the Fab 5 beat Duke during their time at UM. He's also pissed that Grant Hill grew up in a life of privilege and was always a better player in college and the pros. Not to mention that they got worked 3 times from a 150'lb white kid from Jersey City.

Documentary could have at least made it clear that when Webber called the timeout, the Wolverines were down 2 points.

2. The 150lb white kid from Jersey City happened to be legitimately good at the game of basketball, if my recollection serves me correctly.

So maybe I'm not sure what your point is.

webber traveled not once, but TWICE before the TO call. Many have speculated that he was trying to throw the game because his boy Ed Martin was set to win a SHEEET ton of money if um lost.

(ed martin was the guy at the auto plant that fed the fab 5 over $600,000 while running a bookie operation out of the plant he was working in. And then mysteriously died before he could testify during his prosecution by the Feds.)

anyways, Watch the tape if you can find it, as webber gets the ball on the inbound, he takes about 3 steps and doesnt get the call, then again before the TO he travels with a no call.

150lb white kid from Jersey City was set to make a ton of money in the NBA until he had an accident leaving the arena after a game his rookie year. His teammate, Mike Peplowski (former Mich Stater) was first on the scene. White kid said that Pep saved his life.

Went on to play 4 or 5 years after the accident, but was never the same.

The 150lb white kid is still living pretty good, thanks partially to his Dukie education, and playing for a fella like Coach K.

NOTE: I HATE the dukies as a team, but have absolute mad respect for who they are, what they are, and what they represent.

I'm not going to disagree that Hurley was legitimately good at the game of basketball. Some would even say that the all-time assist leader in the NCAA was great. I guess the reason for my comment on why Hurley probably drove them crazy is because he drove everyone crazy (except Kenny Anderson and King Rice). Honestly though, do I think the fact that he kicked their ass, was 150lbs. and white added to that? Yes I absolutely do. Judging from some of the comments on the documentary, it is clear that certain things like privilege and race influenced their impressions of Duke Basketball players. That doesn't bother me the least bit.

I've played basketball for as long as I can remember. 11 years ago I was a 6'2" 170lb. white kid in a predominantly black school system and played 3 years Varsity and even was lucky enough to play 1 year of Division 3 ball. I'll very honest...Race is a big part of the game. It's part of life. It doesn't bother me to say that, it's just the way it is. It may not be what some people want to hear, but in my experience that's part of it. I could elaborate further, but would prefer not to and don't think I need to.

Also, you are right that Hurley wasn't the only one playing, but he played outstanding against the Fab 5 in all three outings of his career, including keeping Duke in the game in the first half of the '92 final(if not the Final Four).

I realize that I went a long way to justify my comments and feelings, but in my experiences and going by what Jalen and King said why wouldn't I think that? If anything, they leave it open for me to presume that they thought that way.

You are right, it bugged Jailin that it was a white guy, and I believe it was the Jim Rome interview where he admitted to that.

Im trying to find the Jailin' quote where he said that anytime he saw a white guy guarding him, his eyes lit up and he knew he was going to score. There are two people that I have read this about lately, and I find it a bit disturbing. (somewhat accurate, but a bit disturbing at the same time)

As a white guy who used to have sub 4.4 speed, I find some of the "non-athletic" references a bit offensive. I also used to be able to dunk a tennis ball, which is no great feat, except that I am only 5' 9". Stereotyping just bugs the stink out of me.

We're barely disagreeing here, and maybe even not at all. What bothered Jalen about Duke (when Jalen was 18, to be fair) was the general "whiteness" of the program. There is a video clip on ESPN.com with Jalen and Jimmy King where talk about this. Basically, Jalen's point is that Duke would never have recruited him* because he was poor, lived in the inner city, went to shoddy public school, didn't have a stable family situation, etc. And as a result, the Duke basketball program was representative of something he really resented at the time....which isn't an unreasonable perspective, given his situation. So it was losing to that program, and the symbolism that he attached to such a loss, that really bothered him. That isn't to say he would have been jumping for joy if Hurley lit him up. But, again, Hurley was really good at basketball, and so I think Hurley could have dropped 50 on Rose and Rose would have been able to shrug it off just fine had Michigan been able to win the game.

*They did recruit Chris Webber, who was middle-class.

I am probably agreeing with about 99% of what you are saying. But I heard Jailin' on Jim Rome, and on some other local and national shows, I think he WANTS you to think that this is how he felt at 18, when it is actually how he STILL feels.

He is bitter. And he is still trying to drag others under the bus with him. You cannot be that bitter without still having major issues.

I will admit to being a full on fab five hater, but it is not because they went to michigan, it is because they were the most arrogant of the arrogant arses. They trashed the game of basketball. webber cried about being broke when his family was upper middle class and could have bought him a pizza any time he wanted one (he made statements about being a poor college kid, and couldnt even afford to go out for a pizza with friends) AND then, he took all of that money from Ed Martin on top of it all.

They were a bunch of classless punks. When Jailin' and friends got down on the floor and rubbed their butts across the S at the Breslin Center, after beating MSU, that should have told the entire world about what the fab 5 were all about. classless.

Just watched this. Good, but I was just curious as to how Michigan got punished so many years later. Shouldn't the statute of limitations have saved them?

Chris Webber took Hundreds of thousands of dollars from a u of m booster to play basketball at the university of michigan. While he was in school he spent all of his time complaining about being a poor college student and cant even afford to go out and get a pizza with his friends. -----striken from record---------(attempting to fix. carry on) he felt that college athletes need to get a stipend to go with their 5 year of free college. He ripped of an entire generation of basketball fans by being a fraud, and a cheat.

and to top is all off, he then lied to a grand jury when asked about his involvement with ed martin. he refused to cooperate with tNCAA investigation into michigan basketball. Every game he played in at u of m has been wiped from the history books. wins were vacated. banners were taken down. because he cheated. he was too self serving to play by the same rules as everyone else. too selfish. to crooked.

but Im sure he has a great personality.


chis webber can kiss my big fat lily white butt. However, I do love what he did to his beloved michigan basketball program. that is awesome.

Perhaps this is true. However, the comment said "one of the most intelligent ATHLETES.....".

This would refer to his intelligence in regards to his athletic career, i.e. Basketball.

Again - Intelligent Athletes do not travel, then call a ghost-timeout when a National Title is on the line.

Maybe intelligent personalities wouldn't....but that isn't the discussion.
